Padams Would be moderately happy to beat PB (2:29:19) but really want to get a bit closer to 2:25.

Lost too much time into the wind (4-18M), but couldn't have gone any quicker on the day, so have to be reasonably pleased given the conditions.

RESULTS

IT WAS VERY WINDY

I ran to plan with nothing exciting to report as had no issues. Course came up as 26.37 on the Garmin(26.41 on a mates). On an accurate course this was 2.39.30 ish. PB was possible but during the last 3 miles I tired and although I could have picked up I was not prepared to risk it with Comrades in 3 weeks.

ps. had a great steak the night before.

RununMan Looking forward to doing this one again. Some unfinished business from last year ... just hope the wind is not too bad. Expecting a lot more runners which should make it even better. UPDATE - fairly pleased with time, it was pretty windy so not a bad run. Really had to work hard for last 8m. Finished 46th and 7th over 40 ;~)

Chasing a sub 3 hour time this year, so see what happens.
Post race update:
Wind was a major factor, head wind between 7-18 miles, should have been about 5 mins quicker. What I lost on the way out was far more than I gained from the tail wind back! Next time.................

UPDATE: Managed to break 3:45 - massively pleased with this and thanks to DuggieW for the encouragement and company - that was worth 4 or 5 minutes.

Race was ok, usual stuff with Edinburgh and the little niggles over organisation. Course was good and turnout surprising. Now onto the real training for Toronto, gah!

Post race - Edinburgh Marathon. Bad race in general. First 10K was good (37 minutes) but my stomach started playing up after that. Had to take a couple of unscheduled and unpleasant pit stops and was sick at about 15.5 miles. I struggled with the wind and the gradual incline along the sea front but that could've been due to my condition. Still got round and still a respectable time. Support from Fetchpoint was superb again (especially Santa!!) BBQ and beers afterwards were great :)

Fast&Furious Provisional result - will update when official results are published.

Race went very much to plan. Found a big guy doing bang on 3 hour pace and stuck to him from 10 miles up to the turn. Reached 18 miles in about 2:03:30 and picked up the pace to 6:30 per mile with the wind behind me over the remaining 8.2 miles.

It really was not the day for a PB, I was just very pleased with a sub 3 hour time especially coming just 6 weeks after London.

Dynamo Kev Really pleased to set a new pb by nearly 9 minutes. The headwind was a blessing in disguise as it forced me to take the first 18 miles relatively easy, and meant there was plenty in the tank at the business end. Didn't slow at all for the last 6 miles and was constantly overtaking from around mile 10 onwards. Fnished really strong which is a first!

WACA Excellent race! 1st 6 miles very friendly and can coast along without much interference from the wind, but then the prevailing wind on the front for the next 11 miles were pretty tough. Turning at 18 miles the relief from thh wind was bliss and then the last 6 are predominantly downhill and very forgiving for tired limbs. Ecstatic with my time and the run, although I was suffering I ran strongly and finished well. Thanks to the organisers, esp the volunteeers, which make such an event possible.

Son of a Pronator Man Paid my money and *gulp* I'm in. 4 weeks after Lochaber, I'll be running another marathon. Lochaber went well (PB 3:27), so I'm busting a gut to go faster on this downhill route.
Race Strategy was to put some time in the bank in the first 5 miles for when we turned into the wind, I was 5 minutes up when we hit Seafield Road and I held that on my 3:25 schedule until the end.

Anything sub-3:20 would be amazing but realistically I'll be happy with any sub-3:30 :) **UPDATE** Knee hurting throughout so pleased with my time but could have knocked at least another 5 min off it if I'd been fully fit. Course was great although I think it was the big cambers on the roads near the start that kicked off the knee problem. First marathon over and done with - now to look forward to Loch Ness in October!

Bolt A great relaxed marathon event. Very fast at start due to big descents for the first 5 miles. Rather made up for by the strong headwind all the way from mile 5 to 18 on the turn around. Not the most picturesque of marathons but certainly, on it's day, a good one for a PB. It wasn't mine though...not enough training done but I achieved sub 3:45 which was pleasing to me.

Hamster1207 Loved Loved Loved it. Steady pace from the start and felt strong all the way through. A bit breezy now and again but I was usually able to find someone big to hide behind. Dusty track at 17-18 miles was a bit of a shock but the change of surface actually felt good for my legs. Once we turned and I had the wind at my back I felt strong enough to push from 20m onwards. Was on a real high those last few miles when I realised that not only was I going to beat 4hrs but should beat 3:50. The Gels I carried and Lucozade stations gave me a noticeable boost about 5 mins after taking them and I just cranked up the effort mile on mile from 22 home. Ran the last mile at my supposed lactate threshold of around 8 mins dead. All that training really did pay off. No worries and only minor niggles, black toenail and some chafing from the corners of the gels hanging tound my waist. Other that that my calfs are a bit stiff.

Haggis 2 This will be my first this year...Loch ness next....as i have done two halfs i figured my best chance of completing a marathon in a respectable time was after a years training for those and so i have deicated this year to the marathon experience come what may.

I would love to get under 4 Hrs, I would be estatic with sub 3:45 and i would faint if i acheived a sub 3:30.

SueW Very weatehr dependent. If it's hot, I'll wilt. If it's cool and drizzly, then sub 4 is a possibilty. **UPDATE** Well it was cool to begin with! No drizzle becasue of that brisk NE wind. I was pleased with this result. My effort was strong throughout tho I faded in teh last couple of miles. I kept running tho and didn't resort to walking. About 11 minutes faster than Boston 5 weeks ago. great support once you left the city. All in all I enjoyed it.

Badger I'm looking set to be better trained than for Paris last year, and I hope the weather will be a bit less racing-hostile. Has to be worth a flutter; I'd be very disappointed not to knock a few minutes off my current time. RESULT: 16 min PB then. Which is a good big step in the right direction. I was on course for close to 4 until 30k, then hit the wall and slowed drastically. Enjoyed the race, and the whole weekend, but still disappointed on my performance at 20+ miles. Next time, maybe...

Tasis Lass Training did not go well for this marathon ijury in October meant no running for 3 months and no bike either then comming back into running I tore a thigh muscle and weather did not permit cycling to and from college as the bridge was closed for several days for about 4-5 weeks so another 3 weeks wasted and no running finally managed to get out for a few short runs on a regular basis and then it happened I tore my calf muscle so once again it was back to walking and no hills finally got back to running in March and had to take it gently so as not to do anymore damage no reall long runs up until 5weeks before managed a 20 miler but very slow and a couple of 13milers and a half Marathon race 2 weekends ago. Race went fine foot hurting after 10miles so not so bad but had to walk for a mile to ease it off again.
