Great race, good to see so many fetchies
Pleased and at the same time dissapointed, was running 2:52 pace and felt as comfortable. But too much refueling during mile 15 brought on wave after wave of stitches so slowed to 3hr pace. Couldn't eat or drink from then on which made the last few miles intresting. Held on for a PB when it would have been easier to cut my losses.
If I don't do sub 4 at paris this is my last chance for the year. May cry if I do it (or get bladdered one of the two).
Revised time down due to injury woes - will be trying for 10mm and see if I can get round in that - will be chuffed if I do.
Really pleased with that, ideal weather conditions, fairly even pacing until the last couple of miles!
Struggled badly from mile 24 but this is still a 7min PB for me. Well happy with that. Couldn't have done without Peacey. The man's a legend. Great to run with Keefy Beefy, Stuart M and many others. More later. I'm shagged. But content. I can improve on this too.
Right, that's it. Entry paid and confirmed. Can't believe I'm doing another mara. I said I wouldn't! Sub 3:30. Pleeeeease! With a following wind and a bit of fetchpoint shouting/jaffa caking to push me on! *Update July 09 - now trying for sub 3:15. Eeeep! But 3.2x anything will be great. :-)G *update2 - yay did it! Sub 3:15!*
Target marathon for the autumn. *Update* Whoo, 3600 credits bet! 4 minute PB which I'm happy with, but I'm not a fan of that super risky eyeballs out pacing strategy, didn't work for me today Great race with loads of Fetchy and other mates, and the best Fetchpoint ever
24th lady, 9th FS, and a season's best
Going for it.......yes I am !!!!
Sub 3:30 please or a sub 3:15 would make me a very happy man . . .
Very pleased with this run. 5 x SIS GO Gel. Faded a bit at mile 22.
Impossible is Nothing
DNF - went out at sub-3 pace to see what happened but lack of that level of fitness became obvious. 16 miles out my legs were tying up and (although 16th mile was uphill) ran a couple of slow miles so decided not to stagger to the finish in a time over 3 hours and knock out 6 weeks of running in the process. A long walk back to the start past many concerned other runners! Well-organised race, good course and good conditions, shame it didn't work out.
Will start training for this in July. This will be my second Abingdon marathon (3rd marathon in all) and I am bidding to break my PB and get as close to 3:05 as possible.
129th/706 Got excited thought I could do sub 3- kept in a pack going at that pace for 16-17 miles then dropped down to 7.30-7.40 miles until 22 when I completely crashed and went down to 9 min miles. Missed pb by a minute, felt like giving upo at 20-21, but fought on and somehow still enjoyed it.
My first Marathon. Official time 3:09:18 so pleased, but know I could have taken a further 4-6 mins off that if I hadn't taken a chance on wearing my Fastwitch flats for this distance. Feet & hips suffered as a result, so should have worn by Brooks Adrenaline. Nevertheless, for my first marathon I'm delighted as it secures me a GFA place for London 2011. I finished 10th in Cat V50 and 116 overall
that hurt, i'm home and still in agony, but my head is flying after a good PB.
What have I done?
Pretty pleased with this. Started to wonder about 3.30, but quads trouble started about 5 miles in and gradually worsened, so v happy to get round in this time. Huge thanks to all at Fetchpoint.
My first marathon - The plan to achieve sub 3:15.
Race report - Worst race i ever done since starting running in 2005. Had all hopes of getting 3:05/3;10. didn't feel right after 3 miles was working to hard to keep to my pace, after 10 miles started to struggle. The last 16 was hell and 300 other runners past me until i finish. Still can not work out what went wrong. However planning another Marathon in April, because i known i can do much much better.
Goodness me, a PB
Running with MarkC.
PB for Mark, huge.
Job done, awesome day.
Did this last year for the first time really enjoyed ,although i paid the price for an overexhuberant first half. Cramp in both hamstrings and both calves at the same time meant a bit of walking between mile 15 and 21 ,never mind it's all part of the learning curve .
PB by 4 mins - belter!
PB mostly thanks to awesome pacing by Flanker :o)
note to self: feck if you can do this when poorly & poorly trained.... HTFU
First marathon so bit of a lottery to what time but I am confident of 3:45 (3:30 would be the absolute best I think). You know what............I was on for 3:30 at 22 miles but just blew up; absolute agony for last 3 miles. Ah well, I'm pleased with my time & it was a great day.
PB by 15 minutes *boing*
loved it. fetchpoint ROCKED
20 miles at 8's, 6.2 @ 10+'s, inbetween a world record amount of cramp! Time to fix myself once and for all or take up chess.
Blisters at the 16 mile point slowed me right up! Fantastic day though, roll on next year!
Work got in the way of training so this isn't going to be quick (or pretty)
Above comment proved correct ok until 25miles (3:30:00) then 32mins for last 1.2 miles
Still first training run for Luton
my first marathon - hoping to go under 4 hours - any advice?
I did 3:45:08 and I'm pretty pleased with that - think I might stick to halfs and ten milers from now on though!
to paraphrase our illustrious olympian, if anyone sees me going near a marathon again they have my permission to shoot me. that said look in the dictionary under abingdon and it says, ' the perfectly organsied raod race'. slick stuff.
Great race, well organised and a pb
First marathon - really enjoyed the experience. 21 miles at steady 9.5mm pace then struggled for last 5!
Phew, did it!
Sub 3 hours... and never again!!!
My 2nd ever marathon stayed with a group of experienced runners which helped with pacing. Two laps of rural town/country side which was very well supported and very well organised. I was fit once.....
