Abingdon marathon! 3:12:18 officially. We think that of the 2 mats we crossed, the first one was the start and the second one the finish, even tho the second one was under the start finish banner. Nae matter! Will blog about it separately, but looking at the splits I'm pretty happy. I was tired by about 8 miles and felt like I was going uphill! Felt a struggle most of the way. Had to dig deep in second lap and the splits show I was about 5s a mile slower from 15-22, than from 6-13, so didn't slow too much. Then had a real wobble at 23 or 24 miles when I suddenly went woozy. Dizzy, almost blacked out. Blinked it back, tried to concentrate, slowed down, took some water and virtually stopped. The group I had been running with and had then pulled ahead of, who were all aiming for sub 3:15, then passed me. I latched on to them and I think that saved me. 24-26 were horrid, really hanging on. Last mile I was able to realise it was nearly finished and cheer up a bit, if not speed up! They made us go half a mile round the park, when we thought we were at the stadium to finish, which felt cruel!. Then into the stadium, 400m to finish on a track. Had nothing left to speed up, but just tried to look like a runner. Was overtaking by the 3rd of the 3 of the group, sprinting at the end. I didn't mind (even shouted, "Go for it mate!") Was just glad I was there and still running. Emotional when I finished. Knew I had done the sub 3:15. Wasn't quite sure if it was 3:12. The emotion tho was because I knew just a few miles before, I was close to not being able to continue. Hmmm. That really was the ragged edge. Anyway, I was pleased to be so knack'd cos it meant I gave it my best shot. I thought it would have been possible to get 3:0x or 3:10 and that 3:12-3:15 would have been easy. But it wasn't! But I did it! GFA. Not bad for an ol b*gger! :-)G

Congratualtions, a fantastic performance. You must have put a hell of a lot of effort into your training the months before the marathon to get such a big improvement. I hope i can do something similar next year and get under 3.30.
