YWA - Full Body Flow
A meeting got cancelled so I took the chance to do a short session on the mat
One of my favourite flows that just came up randomly on Youtube so I went with it
And it made me feel good

Super easy, up and down some hills and mucking about in the woods. Lovely way to start the day and I'm feeling good.

Cracking flow. Lots of planks, down dogs and transitioning from down dog to "step or hop to the top of the mat" - I've started making a real effort to make myself hop rather than walk to the top of the mat and have gone from making it half way up the mat to now getting to the top. Get me all springy
Great section moving back and forth between standing one legged tadasana and warrior 3 variation. Good balance today.
Comedy cow legs made even more comedy by feline intervention.
Jungle noises in the background which was kind of cool though there was one bird that sounded like my washing machine when it is about to kick into crazy spin mode.
Definitely enjoying challenging myself a little more

FWFG - Yoga Kiss - Total Body Flow
Monkey mind and emotions all over the place for some reason this morning. Tempted just to stop but feline intervention played a big part in my decision to just do and not worry about what was going on in my head.
Bonnie climbed on during the initial sukhasana sequence then moved onto my back in extended child's pose. She managed to stay there for the transition to my belly, repeats of baby cobra and then the push up to plank where she (thankfully) jumped off and sat next to the mat waiting for me to lie on my back. When I finally got there she got VERY confused by happy baby, walking round and round me looking for a way to climb onto my belly. Then, eventually, savasana with a cat all snug on my belly.

Caterham to Otford (as there is no station at Knockholt)
Had a total blast today. Feeling so good at the moment.
100 cals every 30 mins (GU gels, malt loaf, mini babybel)
Only 1L of fluid as one of my bottles leaked - luckily it was in the pouch at the back of my race vest so nothing got too wet.
Took things nice and easy. Ran as much of the hills as I could until things got too steep for it to be practical or efficient. Saw birds of prey and pheasants and cows and trees and blue skies and sunshine and my mojo.
Had to really keep the effort up in the last couple of miles because I really didn't want to miss the train. Strolled onto the platform as the train pulled in #winningatlife

Set out with the intention of doing a flat, road route for this but, after a couple of minutes I was struck by the urge to find some undulations and trail so made for the woods.
Lovely run. Saw more rats and a chubster squirrel.

Another last minute change of mind re the route. Had set out to do flat road as usual for a progressive run then decided to head for the trail in Dulwich Park. Haven't been there for a very long time due to lockdown busy-ness and then ridiculous mud.
I made the effort, and kept the effort up as much as I could but really had nowhere to go for that last 10 mins @ 8RPE
Still, it's done
And I do feel I need to be on trail as much as I can right now. Not just for long runs. It has been a long lock down without it.

YWA - Finding Your Center
Another session choice guided by the limited amount of time I had available.
Faffed about a bit on YouTube trying to decide what I wanted. Looked for something described as grounding
This was good. Breath, core engagement.
Tears came but no real reason and nothing to worry about. Just a release of emotion/general fed up-ness with work.
Onwards and upwards and all that

Missed my yoga yesterday because of work so was determined to fit it in today one way or another.
Chose this session simply because it was a new session I had an email about today. Actually really enjoyed it. Lots of breath work and long hold planks. Feline supervision
Ended the session feeling good. Emotions well and truly navigated.

YWA - Balancing Ocean Flow
Did this one last week (I think) as one of the intermediate series and loved it. It happened to be today's session on the April calendar so I was more than happy to do it again. I think this is one to revisit lots, TBH.
Feel super strong today. Attempted my first hop back to plank from forward fold - have always been scared to even try - and it didn't go as badly as I expected so tried a couple more
Stayed in yogic squat instead of attempting crow and Bonnie tried to get on my shoulders.
She tried to join in again later
Me: Stop it. I'm a boat
Bonnie: And I'm the Captain
I had to carry on and balance Simba over the edge of the cliff with an actual cat sat on my midriff
Me: Stop it. I'm a yogic bicycle
Bonnie: And I'm Eddie Merckx
Have a great Friday!

Hassocks to Eastbourne along the SDW
Loved this so much. Felt strong throughout even when it suddenly started to hail at Alfriston and continued to batter me with thousands of tiny stinging balls of ice for the best part of 2 hours.
Body felt good and energy was high. Felt good at the end, too (even ran for a bus when the trains got scuppered on the way home)
100 cals every 30 mins - GU gels, babybel, malt loaf and Freddos as usual
Not sure how much I drank as I topped up at every tap but I had three wees so I think that is a fairly good sign.

YWA - TRUST - Yoga for Gratitude - May Day 2/31
Chose this one purely as it was on the May calendar for today and it turned out well
Slow and stretchy and thoughtful. Perfect.
Body feels surprisingly good today. It knows I ran a long way but am moving really well, not very sore at all (quads are letting me know they exist, calves loved down dog, and some tightness in the neck and shoulders but really not bad at all), I have energy to burn and am looking forward to the coffee shop over the road opening at 10 so I can treat myself to a latte and a sweet treat.

Best bit was Bonnie climbing onto my back when I was in plank and standing there for the whole time including when I then lowered down to cobra. Weighted planks

Turns out I'm a tad sore from that 10 minute session doing all the squats and lunges yesterday. No surprises there
More core than I was expecting in what was a short, slow and sweet session

As easy 30 mins then 30 mins flat, then 60 mins hills, then 30 mins easy
Well I set out with all sorts of good intentions but my legs had nothing today: sore, tired and heavy
Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy my run, mind you. I totally loved it
Didn't set the alarm and slept for 10 solid hours last night
Did my run 100 steps/walk 50 steps on the hills.
The Bint rule of hills is simple and yet nuanced.
Run 100 steps and assess how you feel. If you are still running strong, efficiently and with good form continue running.
After at least 100 steps, if needed, you may hike with purpose for 50 steps.
You must the start running again.
Silly steep hills should be hiked with purpose.
No naughty walking.
Reaching the top if a hill should be celebrated with a "yay" at the very least.

Really good to spend a decent amount of time on the mat this afternoon.
Feel stretched and strong. Especially good stretch in the hips for me today.
And some feline love and attention
Felt I missed out on a walk this morning so did a little loop taking in some trees and stuff
Also purchased a beautiful bowl from the Spanish Deli next door. It is now full of lovely fruit.

Great vinyasa. Straight in, no mucking about, got me breathing. Might have worked up a sweat or it might have been a hot flush. Who knows?

I had planned to do this after work at 5.30.
At 5pm my boss added a meeting at 7pm that I had to prepare for. Finished a run of meetings at 5.30 (and the last one was a complete mess that made me look incapable and woefully under-prepared), changed into my kit, prepped for the 7pm meeting and headed out the door to run for whatever time was available to me on the grounds that any run is better than no run. Got back to my desk, still in my kit and sweating 2 mins before the call started.
And the run itself was great. Felt good and strong. Just a bit anxious about making it back in time

Eddie said: Longer efforts 3 x 8 mins
Aim is consistency for this session. Each 8 mins focus on strong, steady running. Use the first 8 mins to build into a pace that feels comfortable, start off slightly slower and treat first 8 mins like an extended warm up.
Well that was shit
Tea and banana for fuel pre-run
Had nothing in the tank (probably mentally as much as physically). No beans to give. In the middle of the first 8 mins I realised that I was totally off in my head worrying about work and had stopped focusing on form and effort and had slowed down. Picked it up again but it kept happening. Nothing to give and distracted by work.
Last 10 mins was plagued by weird stomach pains that meant I had to walk.
Walk/jog of shame back home. There were tears but hey ho. It's only a run. And it's only a job. I'm not saving lives. I have a lot to be grateful for and this will pass.

YWA - TRUST - Day 15/31 - Reunite With Your Breath
On the brink of tears before I even got on the mat this morning and faffed around for ages trying to decide what session to do. Was tempted to do something with a physical focus to take my mind off how I was feeling but decided to go with a breath session and I think it was the right move for me right now. Embrace and accept how you feel and find what feels good
Slow, low to the ground and almost entirely "just breathing"
Tears were inevitable today but that's all part of it, right?
Was also feeling the feline love so an added bonus
FWFG - Sthira + Sukha Flow
This is a brand new session added on the FWFG website this week and I loved it.
Wanted to mark an end to the working week with a full session on the mat and this was perfect.
The blurb says
"Sthira Sukham Asanam: Yoga should balance stability, strength and steadiness with gentleness, relaxation, and joy.
The word Sthira translates as strong, steady, stable, rooted and alert. The word Sukha may translate as comfortable, happy, relaxed, softness, with ease. This practice is great for those who want to get out of an anxious mental state and more into the physical body. As the sutra suggests: Strive to practice yoga with strength and in a relaxed manner."
Long sukhasana to start and super long savasana to finish.
Great flow including warrior 2 and dancer.
Finished this feeling energised, grounded and relaxed.
Will return to this one for sure.

Felt tired when the alarm went off this morning so stayed in bed a little longer.
As a result, felt really fresh on this run. Super easy just enjoying being out and looking forward to race day.
Set out in shorts and t-shirt under a blue sky and ended with the last 20 minutes in a torrential downpour.
Totally life-affirming run - especially when I can grab an oat latte (and some gorgeous looking and smelling tenderstem broccoli) from the place across the road

Had actually planned a different session with this one later in the week but this popped up when I fired up YouTube so it seemed like a sign from above
Weirdly I don't think I've actually done this before.
Superb stretchy session! Lizard, half pigeon etc with long holds. Body feels good now
Added manually as my Garmin turned itself off

Appearance of the blanket made Bonnie very happy. Cat cuddles, head bops and purring throughout.
All that and I have a 4 day week this week
