Really lovely run! No specific route and the plan was to take it super easy and stop when I'd had enough or at 24 miles whichever came first (the fact that I didn't run about trying to make up that last 3/4 of a mile shows how pooped I was at the end :-)) Topped up my bottles at every opportunity! One of the online yoga teacher training sites I'm looking at has a free 30 day challenge on YouTube so I thought it would be good to check it out. yogacourse.com (henceforth to be shortened to YC), GOSH Challenge, 1/30 - Rise and Shine Teacher is Kelly Almost stopped this early on as I thought she was a bit shouty but turning the volume down helped and it really is probably because I just used to Adriene. FWFG - Gratitude Rescue Remedy
I'm a bit low this month. September 2022 was so full of happy memories and exciting changes and looking to the future and all of that was crapped on from a great height in January. It is hard sometimes not to dwell on what I lost. I decided a little bit of meditation and gratitude for all the amazing things I DO have would be a positive move. The plan was to sit in sukhasana as normal but Bonnie wanted me to lie down so that is what I did and she lay next to me, snuggled right up against my arm ![]() This was a really lovely guided meditation from Adriene and I will do it again. Simple but effective. We have headstand practice each week during Fee's class. As with many poses, we're all at different stages. I'm still building strength in Dolphin. I thought it might be nice to do come practice at home, too, so will work my way through a variety of videos that I've found. Need to find (or clear) a space against a wall, for sure. Instead I bought myself a small bar of chocolate and had a cuppa and then spent some time on the mat. This is a really good session which I must have done before but I really don't remember. Long, strong holds in plank and warrior 2, and a cool trikonasana and extended side angle vinyasa. I had planned on going to the track session at club this evening but work timings and work hoo-hah meant that what I really needed was some alone time with green stuff and sunshine and sheep and bunnies and the sea and sky and all the lovely things.
I had a route planned in my head that would take me inland a little and then back along the cliff tops by Beachy Head. Sadly I was thwarted by a naughty farmer who had planted crops across the footpath so I took an alternative path and just made it up as I went along. A thoroughly lovely run and just what I needed. 18 miles on the plan but legs felt stupidly heavy and I lacked any kind of energy from the minute I stepped out of the door. Thought about canning the whole thing but today really is the last day of sunshine for what could be a very long time and I wanted to make the most of it. So I walked up hills I would normally run or run/walk up and stopped to chat to people or take in the view and it was bloody lovely. Mile 7 was funny - got lost in what is actually a very small bit of woodland and had to bushwhack my way out then yomp up the hill. Wore the wrong shoes too. Went for roadies thinking it would be super dry but there was still a lot of heavy dew and then I got all silly nervous on the descents (not wanting to fall and break something 2 weeks before the wedding :-)) Possibly the last ice cream of the summer at Cadence. It will be back to coffee soon. This morning was a stunner though with a real sense of autumn in the air. I do like autumn ![]() Legs felt tired throughout and, in the end, I decided to call it a day at East Dean (where the summer fete was in full flow :-)) and hop on the bus. I have another long-ish run on the plan tomorrow. Might add the extra miles to that. Or Not. Or might have a rest day. Gonna play it by ear. But now I have to go to the Post office and then it's full steam ahead for an afternoon of weeding. Very deliberate choice this morning. Had a weird experience last night. At about 9pm Bonnie and I were just settling down to watch Bringing Up Baby when there was an almighty crash and the front door (that I can see and is not far from the sofa - I live in a small cottage) shook. I thought it was going to come off its hinges. It was like what I imagine happens when the police do that thing on your door with a battering ram. I thought someone must have thrown the potted shrub on my porch at the door or something. I live on an unlit footpath that is a shortcut between two streets. There are no other house on the path. Anyway, it scared the living daylights out of me (and the cat!). I got dressed (was in my jammies) and went outside to look but could see nothing. Had a better look this morning and can see nothing. And I am sure it was probably bored or drunk youths or something but it really upset me and I went to bed feeling scared in my own home, slept badly and woke up anxious. I'm always a little anxious when I have to get Bonnie to the vets. Balancing Breathwork
Work is all-consuming, this month is proving hard emotionally and my emotional and mental health is through the floor. There's not going to be time for any exercise today apart from the yoga class with Fee at 6pm (which I'm glad I've booked and paid for in advance or I would have been tempted to work through this, too). This session was on the calendar and seemed like a good choice to squeeze in before I started my working day. Taking 10 minutes to breathe is always helpful. Given that I haven't run a single step since last Saturday's somewhat underwhelming long run, it might seem a tad risky to head out for 20+ miles today but I'm so glad I did.
A perfect autumn day today. Blue sky, that special quality of light that you get at this time of year, the colours and smells of autumn, and that little nip in the air. Bloody lovely. Another random route with lots of opportunities to stop and just look and listen and drink it all in. Sea, sheep (very bleaty :-)) and swifts galore. Bumped into my ex-neighbour from East Dean as I ran down the Crowlink Road so stopped for a chat. Made my way to Cadence for coffee and cake where I had another chance encounter. This time with Nicole (SUP and yoga instructor extraordinaire who .B. and K and I had an SUP lesson with earlier in the summer). We had a lovely chat about her plans for her business, some special events and the fact that I am booked in for a couple of her classes over the next few weeks. Her energy was infectious and I set off for the last 7-ish miles of my run with a spring in my step and a smile on my face. Legs started to hate me from about 18 miles so the last bit was something of a slog but I did it and stopped my watch outside the bakery in Old Town where I bought the fixings for lunch and a pasty to have for my dinner later.
