Puffing Billy
Crappy weather, but enjoyed run. Ran first 2 very slow and then gradually picked up pace. Better time than expected and felt great.
Yeti
This was my first ever race in 2007 so HAVE to beat my PB a year later!
(Yep, I beat that PB!)
Beezer
2 weeks after Alfie was born. Fitness was fine just not enough miles in my legs!!!!
Marmite
Better than expected after disasterous Clarendon.
Bob!
The Trains won't be working, the roads blocked with Traffic. But that's Pompey for you!!

Great Race.

PB Potential, I Guess I'll be aiming for one!
Blister
A PB, true, but I wasn't happy with my run, pacing was so bad (didn't help that I blew up by 4 miles) and time was a good 2 mins slower than what I'm capable of. Will blog about it later.

Prediction is only good if there is no head-wind for the last 2+ miles!! UPDATE Pleased with time - wet before start and after 6miles - very warm too. Last 2 miles have been worse in the past - just rain and a little wind this year!! Well supported despite the rain.
Penelope Pitstop
It drizzled for most of the race so kept us nice and cool. I borrowed Kim's Garmin which really helped.
Max71
A week after Abingdon. I shall be lighter and fitter so that will count for something, I'll also have run a marathon the week before.....mwahahahaha

So....a PB then a week after a marathon..I really am an athlete.
Hendo
Nailed it :-)
Athlete In Progress
Was Not exactly feeling 100% on the day, Little stomach upset, but could not decide to pull out after driving there and being in a great atmosphere. Although Seriously bad weather and a long toilet pitstop hindered a pb possibility at least I finished I suppose! & had a good time!
ToBaldlyGo
Never done this one before. The dockyard should be interesting!
Good race, got very wet - would have liked under 1.30
Lizzybagwash
PB could have done better but lacked motivation got very cold and running on your own is no fun would love to have someone at the finish to give me a big hug - well done lizzy
Kitty
Don't bet! Weekend after Abingdon :)
TheBeetroot
Right ankle started to really hurt halfway round rapidly followed by rest of leg and still sore Monday night, while left one is perfectly fine! No idea what happened, but it was a struggle to keep going. Oh well. Enjoyed it anyway in a weird kind of way.
FaeryImp
Will it be another early bath? This'll be GSR no three....oh soggy chips
filthyfaerie
Yeay!!!!!!!!! Minus few minutes for toilet beak....am thrilled regardless!!!! :-)
5hep
Still on the way back from injury so pleased to get round quicker than the 10m point for the half I did recently but felt crappy from mile 3 !
dungey2002
Wet and windy again! Too many people, difficult to get running.
Disco Dave
Really enjoyed 2007 so entered for this year. Hopefully will not get any cramp in the last mile and a half.

Update.... Managed to beat last years time which is cool but had to run without my Garmin as the battery had run down so had to guess my pace.
GAZGIB
Ran a strange race; went off way too quick and did a 7:43 for mile 1, eased back and enjoyed the docks. Then felt terrible and whilst regretting an early morning bacon roll I desperately searched out a portaloo. Found 1 at five and half and felt much better afterwards. At 7mile it felt like I had a needle sticking in my hamstring, so I eased off a a bit, but enjoyed the last 2 miles down the front and felt great afterwards as all the marathon training seems to have paid off.
Cormorant
It always seems to rain here and the damp spectators were eerily quiet as they absorbed the shock news of 'Arry's defection. I didn't give them much to cheer, nearly bailing out at 3 miles and then again at 7, but was pleased with this. We saw Paula and the elite women's start too and she should be given a knighthood or something without delay. Thanks to all the volunteers who turned out in the rain to give out drinks and goody bags and remove chips. See you next year.
Pov
1st 10 mile race for me.Should be capable of going sub 1:20 depending on strength of the sea breeze at the end.Going to try and track Konaboy for as long as possible.Enjoyed this. The time was better than I expected. The head-wind for the last 2 miles may have cost me another minute, but still pleased. Konaboy came past and kicked on from 4 miles, also bumped into Monkey Harris.
Mykey
My first 10miler. S is no longer running and the HM is getting a miss as ITB is playing up and training has gone to pot. My start is Green wave B. I will finish if it kills me.
Slowly But Shirley
Would love to knock a couple of minutes off of last year's PB here. However, painful right foot (following too much racing recently) has other ideas at the moment. 2 weeks rest after the Royal Parks Half this Sunday and we'll see ... (though I might have forgotten how to run by then!!). UPDATE: nearly 5 mins slower than last year as foot hasn't healed :-( but it was still a great event, really enjoyed it anyway! I always enjoy the GSR, whatever the elements have to throw at us! Soggy but at least no high winds like last year!
Konaboy
Wet again but not as windy as in previous two years. Got caught near back of orange wave & had to work hard through the congestion. Met Marvis & Monkey Harris at 4miles then pushed on. Felt good through 6 then thought about gel but didn't bother thru water at 7. Suprised at lack of headwind along Southsea I got a 2nd wind over last 2miles. Defo could go at least a min to two quicker in a less congested race. All in all quite pleased but will give it a miss next year.
roz
Could have done better but girls were up from 9pm to 5am being sick. No sleep for the wicked! or runners :-(
Santy
Nothing is going to stop me pulling out of this year's race! NOTHING!
oiyou
A PB but felt a bit flat after, thought I would have done a bit better and was fighting the "STOP and WALK" demons from 5 to 7 miles. Next time do some speed work cos it does work! Still pleased I didn't walk and there's always next yesr
linsblake
Note to self - don't get pissed the night before
oceanspirit
It was a great race running with John66 and Mykey!!!! It was the first time I have ever run 10 miles in my life and thanks to mykey and John66 I ran the entire 10 miles!! I am extremely extremely happy with my time and race!!!!
TZ
59:16 confirmed as my finishing time by a finish-line photo. Unfortunately the "Great" Run people have managed to lose any record of my entry, so I am not yet on the results. As I appeared twice on the TV, I will argue with them until there is no breath left in my body, to get rightfully listed on the official results.... an irritating end to an otherwise perfect day. UPDATE: 8 days later, and my result (59:16) has appeared in the official results.
Slimster
Determined to break into the sub 70 zone....update: zig zagged through the crowd for 1st mile (6.57) 2nd mile much quicker in 6.25, 5k 21.14, & then felt the Paula urge and needed a pit stop, 1st time ever whilst running I felt the need, passed 5miles in 34.58, still on track, but felt a stitch in my right side, and a lovely blister building under my right foot, then 8 miles in felt the outer muscle of my left knee burning away, still pushed on, I will be back next year, for the sub 70, still PB'd on last years time inclusive of my mishaps....
anne23
Liked it.
morganpeet
Nice course, great company with the hockey girls - suffered miles 6-8 probably cause have done virtually nothing for the last 2 weeks with bad cough so overall am pleased with the result.
steeevooo
Decided to get back into running and have entered this, it's quite a way in advance, but as I won't have much time to train before June, I should be okay for this.
Covert
Another nightmare in second half due to blisters and general lack of match fitness!
Mandymoo
Looking forward to this one - hoping for a PB.

After being poorly the few days before decided to race at last minute. 1 hr 40 .37 finishing time, no PB but was pleased with result.
getsetgo2
First time at this distance!
monkey harris
good run, but felt i could do better
Swain
Probs with foot after 2 miles (severely bruised at end)
-Monty-
looking forward to this as i want use it as training for 2009 FLM. very pleased with time. new pb!
Prof Disco Dean
Going for 6.45pm, first 10 mile race#UPDATE#1.06.51 with positive splits 33.38/33.13 good result probably could have took another minute off due to congestion
SuperSooks
PB by nearly 5 minutes... Hooray :-), slowed quite a lot in the 9th mile and started to feel sick around the same point, so I am pleased to sneak under 66 mins. Conditions were much better than anticipated and the rain stopped and wind eased during the race. The random start zone allocation A-C ( I was given C) was not a big deal in the end as it was easy for me to hop into the A section, so did not get held up at the start. Great atmosphere as always and nice t-shirt and medal.
Crazy Grazy
Was not on my best form as needed the toilet from about a mile
Making_Tracks
Had hoped to go under the 90mins but the course was more congested this year and it was pretty wet. I'm pleased with my time though as it's a new PB!
bagelFS
Not sure how fast I can run ten miles in a race, but I reckon 7:30 is a safe speed...not sure I'm yet up to the race predictor time My first 10 miles, and third ever race :-)
Ill the weekend before..hmmm not sure what I should aim for...maybe a slow plod instead?
UPDATE: Started in Orange C rather than A. Was on target for 71 min 10miles, watch said "Low mem" under total time at mile 5, and could not see the total time at all...then at mile 7 was hit with severe stomach cramps - my last half mile was the slowest I ran the entire race while everyone sprinted past me(including a runner dressed as a bumble bee)but it was all I could manage to just finish with a shuffle! If I could have seen time may have mentally helped, but, for a first 10miler, I can't not be pleased! Makes the next 10 miler easy(ish) PB potential, assuming training continues!
bazza73
Just hope the weather is better than last years!!!!!!
Biggsy Wiggsy
well what can i say. FIrst time i have run this distance as a race. It was cold and wet infact veryvery wet! But then again every race i've done over the past 18 months has been wet. I got soaked through... Enjoyed this but felt awful leaving RFGR in car ill!
Ben Belton
injured
Micksta
Been out with injury for over a year now, just only done literally two runs and my knee is still weak, was not expecting anything better than between 75-80mins at best, even had plans to pull out at the 6-mile mark!

So just really really pleased with the result, to run 65mins off barely any training is very encouaging, knee was playing up at start, but by 3-miles everything was moving well, indeed I even got a negative split, just started to get cramps in the calfs from around 9-miles, but thats due to lack of mileage! lets just hope now things can get back on track, though I still need to be sensible myself and back off the running for a good few weeks yet.
ninemins
Damp and windy day but faultless organisation - heavy traffic on the course but still knocked 3 minutes off my 10 mile PB.
man,slow
Wow another wet race! Disappointed not to crack under the hour but considering my dodgy feet & belly not to bad a result. :)
less bounce
I have watche shinyhead mike and Joan do this for so many years that I hope I can do them proud this time.

that was fab, Im doing it next year for sure!
The last 100m were horrid i felt really sick...noticed there were men there with sick bags so could have pushed it and used one of them!!!
Scorpio
4 years since last did this race - hey ho really please with my time - a PB 4 me!!
Hybrid Vortex
Garmin time - 1:28 (quick toilet stop) DOH
devonlol
Another wet and windy Great South Run but at least achieve a distance PB by 90 secs and Race PB by 4 mins 50!
teesh
Good race, not hilly really. Lots of encouraging crowds, nice and cool weather. Good for a PB!
nigecunningham
This will be my second run. I started running in January 2008 and this will be my furtherst distance. I will be running with my 18 yr old son, Simon although I expect he will be some distance ahead of me
The Wizard
Bretahin gnot right, felt sluggish
the running bluebell
Pre run to NY marathon, gonna take it easy!!
DaveH
Last minute entry through work, I guess I'm about to find out how little fitness I've retained from March 2007.

UPDATE - Ohmagod, that somehow went stupidly, stupidly, stupidly well. Couldn't hold on at sixes into the headwind in the last two miles and lost 37s but really pleased.
ndellar
Braved the howling gales last year and really enjoyed it. I would be happy to take 15 mins off last year, or as long as my finish time starts with a "1" rather than a "2". Having my Tonsils out on 31st Oct therefore this is the last big event before that, feeling really really fit (for me) at the moment so going to really give it some welly and see what happens. It worked for the Great North!
Hitch
Not done this one before
Alex B
This is becoming an annual pilgrimage. Trying to beat my time from 2000, when i first ran this.

Wow! Another wet, but not so windy GSR. Had a good start - almost too fast and suffered at miles 7-8. Stepped it up a bit for the final 2 miles for a good new PB. Nice to meet a few more fetchies also. :-)
solitude_fairy
Loved it. Put in everything I had, and it showed. At the end I had to be helped into a foil blanket and just could not talk, not for out of puff, but I had simply NO energy left. JohnJ said foil blanket was in my bag, I am sure I must have looked blank, as I did not understand him at all. Thanks John.

Rest will be covered in blog, splits bliddy awful!
aitchmac
Suppose to be 10 mile race but my Garmin says it was 10.3 miles. very wet nbut at least the wind dropped
Trevor T
Went out a bit quick. Struggled at 7 miles. Knee pain quite severe post race. Overall pretty happy and know I can get much quicker. Splits were 5k 23:12 10k 46:01 and 15k 68:48. Came 776 overall and 63 in age group.
Berni
Not a PB this time, but not far off and I did comr 3rd in age group
Whippet123
Stayed back to keep that wayward sister of mine running and home in under 2 hours. She had frequent attacks of the "walking voices"
Tiptoes
All going well, looking for a PB
Sid
After running the Kingston 16 mile Breakfast Run two weeks ago my left foot became very painful but today it held out!! Pleased with my time and even more pleased with my foot!!
kdp
Not bad i started too fast and soon got tired
dswaterman
Great run, though windy for the finish which just about finished me off. Back for 2009.
eMpTy
Weather relented a bit for the race, bit breezy in last two miles.
Blackers800
Fantastic event despite the weather. Rubbish performance personally due to no running last 4 weeks and Plantar Fasciitis. But still had a great day out - really enjoyed it.
Jelly
First time I've done 10 miles.
Great fun.
Sharkrunner
PB for me! Gosport half next
Nic-Nocs
I didn't have a good day! I went out too fast (first 3 miles were 8-8.5 min miles) and then really struggled from 5 miles. I couldn't even manage the last push for home on the last 300m, even though Steve was shouting me in! Another 2.5hrs queue to get home!!
John66
In. Should be interesting.
rprince
Pretty miserable. Overcast and showers throughout. Took a couple of weeks off during the build up to get over a cold, but still wasn't over it by the time of the race, so felt horrible! Didn't enjoy, but I'd like to tackle another 10 mile at a different time of the year.
Colourtelly
My first ever race!!!! And with no training at all...had only ever run parkrun 5k!
knotty80
