Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Running Fish a big race for me is over 100 people, so was a bit of a fish out of water with this one. dutifully lined up at the start near the marker for my prospective finish time only to find that i was blocked in by at least 200 people who had been somewhat more optimistic. consequently only managed 6:10's for the first couple of miles as i picked my way through the mess, then settled into 5:50's through to 10miles. think this course might be quite good for me as it has lots of gentle rises and falls, so the rsi pain holds off for a bit compared with dead flat stuff.
anyway, early season road race is done to ensure the aerobic fitness is there, and can now get back to the dark side.

manicstreetpounder 1:21:22 by my watch - gun time about 1:21:50, I think. It was all a bit chaotic with the queue for the bags at the start and was still peeing behind the baggage tent when the hooter went off. I managed to hop on to the start just before the start line and got off to a good pace for the first three miles and felt very good so pushed the pace on for a few miles. Started to tire about mile 8, I realised I was nowhere near a PB so eased off a bit. Quite pleased with time considering I'd got back off a 12 hour flight last night - by no means an all-out effort either (HR only about 85% whr) so now have an eye on a PB at Reading next month.

wizlyn Failed to register a chip time, so this is my own watch time (1h29 gun time). Stupidly stood shivering in the cold and wet by the 1.25 pace board when we were lining up, so spent the first 3 miles weaving in and out like a nutter... Anyway, felt OK, not brilliant, but OK.

Re. the race, because of the weather the kit tent and start were chaotic - I and lots of others queued for over 20 minutes to drop bags, and then ran down late to the start. Otherwise pretty well organised though very very busy

Simon L Back for a third year. Hoping not to struggle over last 2 miles up that slight but what feels like a long drag to the finish line.
Ran really well. Split times show 1st mile was slowest at 7.54. Other thanthat all miles within 15 seconds of each other. With last mile 6 59. Felt really good all way round. Overtaking all the way, especially on small uphill sections over the 2 motorway bridges.

Konaboy Chaotic at start due to the appalling weather, just managed to get the bike locked up & baggage handed over before the start. The time zoning didn't work out at all due to the baggage log jam. Ran comfortable up to 6miles after which the whole thing became a bit of a slog. I might give this one a miss next year as the course is getting a bit too familiar - It'd be nice if the organisers could include some of the town in the course. Medal's OK but would prefer a T-shirt or other momento.

Melbourne Runner watch time. Heavy rain made for a grim trudge to the start. luckily I got to the loo quickly (long queues) and then was able to give my stuff to my bag carrier (OH). Run started well but at 7 miles I started flagging. I took my gel and picked it up again but at mile 10 I flagged again. Unfortunately did not have another gel (note to self, carry two!) and so walk/ran to the finish. Bit disappointed as I was on for a PB and up till mile 10 was on target. If I had not had two miles at nine and a half minutes I would have been there. Sadly it was not meant to be today. Excuses do include a lack of sleep last night and not as many long runs outside since January as I would have liked.
