Hi ,

Go-KL Will be targeting this race as the one where hopefully I finally break that 6 minute milling barrier. However the GP circus trip to Singapore and Japan the weeks before may take its toll.

Decided to go 'green' and go by train to the start which proved to be a mistake as it allowed only 50 minutes to get to the unsignposted start, by which time the few portaloos I could find had really long queues. I finally left them at 09:55 by which time I had no hope of getting to the black start and had to line up about 100 metres back.
This made for a fairly frantic first mile ducking and dodging and getting fairly medieval with a few Ipod wearers (Apologies if I offended anyone). Full of adrenaline the first 4 miles or so flew by. Struggled a bit round Bourneville where the noticeable undulations were (The course actually rose steadily for the first 6 miles). But miles 8-12 I was really strong with the slight tail wind and the drizzle cooling pleasantly. I knew I was on for a PB. The final mile almost put pay to that as we climbed loads and took on lots of niggly turns. But I put on an almighty sprint to finally go under 1:19 and under 1:18:39 (chip time). Was really pleased but slightly frustrated at the wasted energy in the first mile. Weather: drizzle, cloudy, around 12C slight breeze (Near perfect). Garmin measured 13.30 miles but was about .2 out from the first mile (I think it got confused right near the start. Went through 10 miles in an unofficial PB of 59:48.

FellSurfer Support was great. Loved the bands at various points and the luco sport stations. Broad street finish was amazing. Some kids were holding their hands out so darted across the road to give them a slap which got a cheer from the crowd....then everyone wanted some!! lol

eL Bee! Fabulous new course. organisation at the start needs sorting. People who run 10m/m in a pen with 6m/m runners is ASKING for someone to get seriously hurt in a crowded big city race.
Although you can't legislate for rank stupidity on the part of individuals.
Apart from the little gripes (and the ridiculous insistence by the officials at the NIA to move out of the building to make space for the incoming runners - which was inane in the extreme) this was a far better event than last year.
Time is watch time. I'll update it with official time when it's out

blacknail chris This is my chip time. My Garmin had me finishing 13.1 in 1.37:00 and measured the distance run as 13.27m. Very good PB, whatever the precise time. I'm being proper and putting the official time in. In training log I'll put Garmin time, which is 7.23 mm pace , 10K at 45.52, 10m at 1.13:45. Stomach cramps from about half way around which I ignored with the help of a Thame harrier running about the right pace for me, who I was then able to drop in the last mile. Thanked her later for the pacing.

Change of plan. Will still race it, but not in PB form and would be delighted with a 2009 best.
Enjoyed this - didn't push it as I've been unwell in the past week and am mollycoddling an ITB niggle. Good, though tortuous, course, and not boringly flat. Road closures and other infrastructure excellent. Would have liked a cup of tea and a cake at the end!

SPR Knew from 5k in I wasn't in shape to race so accepted it and just ran at the pace I could, legs died at 10 miles which shows that was a good decision. Will be back next year if it is the same course.

Running Caz Really bad start, in totally the wrong place and spent the whole time running around people. Enjoyed it though and felt strong. Was diasppointed with time as I felt as though I ran sooo much better than I did last week at Kenilworth (which was also much more undulating) but was slower!?!?!? Dowse Sorry guys, not even close to the prediction, on for a PB until I blew up at mile 10. Slowly dropped from 7:20s to 9:30s just to finish, not 100% sure what went wrong. Nice race, wonderful amtmosphere and well organised. Could be stricter on the starting pen colours and I measured it as long by 0.25 miles, but my garmin could be wrong.

AlexL Not sure what I was letting myself in for as my longest distance in training was 8 miles and I haven't run a race in my life but based on training times felt 2 hours was a good target to go for so thrilled to just outside that.

Definitely going to get under 2 hours for my next half with a bit of training want to try and get under 1:50...

Grumpy fella Usual story: ran well (by my standards) till 10 then progressively died. Need a new training program. That aside I enjoyed it.
