Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.
The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free.
But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient.
Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead.
Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?
Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Newport Marathon. There's a story to it and I didn't struggle nearly as much as the splits suggest, mainly because I implemented anti-struggling strategies when I realised my legs were going to stop co-operating. My priority was finishing (for Oscar the Grouch, even though I don't believe in angels, and to get over my DNF in Valencia, and because eL Bee! had brought me all the way here). Walked for about three minutes going up on to the bridge (24 miles) then realised that, actually, I didn't have time in hand over 5 hours and I'd better get a move on.
With my HR having sat in the 140s until the last mile and a bit, I don't expect to be too washed out by this effort.

Well done you did it!
Well done, V’rap. A tough day at the office, but you obviously dug in and refused to let it get the better of you. Sterling effort!
Awesome job. Well done xx
Well done 😊
Well done, Vrap. 👏
Well done, you got it done 👏
Fabulous, well run 👏

Well done for getting it done!
Well done V’rap 👏
Well done on getting through.
Well done digging down!
Well done vrap, awesome marathoning
Well done for getting it done!
Well done, that takes some determination!
Thank you all
It wasn't what I thought I'd trained for, but if a shit marathon comes out at around 5 hours I'm not extinct yet.
as WayOfTheDodo says: Well done for getting it done! 👍
Def not extinct and hard miles count twice. Well done for digging in.
Thanks
As my HR indicates, I didn't dig very hard, and there was enough of interest on the route to stop it from being too much of a slog mentally.
Well done for digging in for that sub-5 👏
Well done, you knuckled down in the face of adversity and got it done!
Nice to remember Oscar…
Very well done! 👏
Thanks
Yes, I got it done. It would have been difficult to get my head round another DNF.
Awesome marathon. Well done 👍
I admire your resilience well done.
Thanks
(Confession: If diverting to the half marathon course had been an option, I'd probably have taken it. But we were firmly told at the start that it wasn't.)
Grit and determination! Well done!
Also a nice touch to remember Oscar.
Well done on toughing it out when the legs don’t want to cooperate. Always tough when your body doesn’t want to play on marathon day
Did worry looking at the splits! Well done 😊
