Sorry for those who bet on me.
Still a PB but the marathon is definitely a distance I am really struggling with.
Maybe I should start with loosing one stone (or more) would help!
Oscar the grouch
Paris marathon - what an experience!!!!!! Flat and excellent, loved every (well not quite every) minute of it!!!!
First ever Marathon and I'm using Hal Higdon's training plan. This is gonna be the highlight of my year as well as belated honeymoon (very understanding partner!!)
Beautiful course, and great weather for it, although with so many runners it was tough to get into a rhythm. With hindsight I dont think I was in shape to get to 3:30 and should have gone for something a bit more realistic, was a lot of work to only take 3 mins out of my PB.
What a way to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary!
First marathon. Really excited by it. Wold like to beat 5 hrs, or even 4.45, but frankly, just finishing will be a huge achievement.... UPDATE: Loved it. Ran slowly as wanted to enjoy the experience. felt strong through most of it (except 30-35k which was a bit of a drag) - no wall, no sense of exhaustion, an amazing day - could prob have run ten or fifteen mins faster if pushed it, but this was a day for pleasure and acheivement, not pain. Next time, I'll go for pain.. and the best thing is I'm really motivated and want there to be a next time!
Finished the race bloodied & battered after a fall at 6 miles, but finished with a new pb & loved it.
Running this with runs4wine. Really looking forward to enjoying my second 'big city marathon' experience. UPDATE - Succesful run. Ran with runs4wine, her first marathon so very pleased that she got round without any major problems. Good to see the fetchies and fetchpoint!
I just want to get round, but if I can break 4 hours in the process I will be a seriously happy Fetchie....
looking forward to a nice weekend break with the misses with a run to boot.... what a great weekend well done everyone
nearly4 1/2 hours!! really enjoyed it was smiling the whole way organisation was amazing!
This was my first ever marathon in 2003, and will be number 12 this year. Only set my (tough) PB 8 weeks ago in Barcelona but really want to go sub 3'40 and this is probably the marathon for it this spring. Fast and flat route, just hope it isn't too crowded. *Update* Sorry to all those who bet - I intended to go for 3'30 but was 3 minutes down by 5k, then there was a complete standstill after the first water station. Got to half way in 1'50, so that was 5 minutes down and after a lot of effort dodging people. Blew up at 25k, and my right quad caved in too. Hopeless. Strange atmosphere today, quite aggressive, lots of pushing and shoving and water stations were a ruck. Wouldn't do a big city marathon again, so many runners really don't help.
Poorly foot made it! In the circumstances, very pleased with a 3 minute PB
Weather great, if a little hot towards the end. No wind. Started a bit quick and settled at a pace slightly faster than intended, hence the 1:26 half and 2:11 20M times (a 3min pb) but it felt comfortable. Averaged under 6:40's until 20m and 7 pace from 20m tol 24m so pleased. The last 2m were really hard work and it was a case of hanging on. Course fast with a few climbs along the river. The 1k through the underpass was strange as was the narrowing of the course at the half stage. Water every 5k. Good support throughtout and delighted with the time. Finished position 819 and went under 3hrs for the first time.

Had a mare, sore stomach at the start but expected it to settle down but as I took on liquids it just got worse and worse. Ran with AntClark until fetchpoint before I finally had to stop. Every time I tried to run my stomach cramped up and in the end struggled to finish.
Ultra Sparkly Bridget (USB)
6th marathon and going after another PB UPDATE Think pear shaped and you'll get the picture
watch time for now at 3:22'50 .. will be updated with official time when received .. Update: Chip time given as 3:22:51 so happy to go with that. An amazing race over a brilliant weekend away in Paris. Weather was wonderful and the city setting for the marathon was superb ... took in all the sights on route and felt the crowd support was excellent. Had set myself a stretch target of 3hs15 (target pace 7:26/mile) but I was too cautious in the first half.... running the 21.1k in 1:43:01 (a pace of approx 7:52/mile) and the second half in 1:39:50 giving an average pace of 7:37/mile
First Marathon, Bib 15993, 3:30:00 or close would be great
**Update clock time sub three wow what a great feeling and race loved it and meet loads of fetchies. time total (netto) 02:57:37 time total (brutto) 02:58:24
Hoping for sub 4.30 here. Update - did it! Enjoyed the experience despite the very warm weather and dangerously overcrowding at times. Very pleased with my time, and lovely to meet some of the other fetchies doing this both on the way round and in the pub afterwards.
first ever marathon and cant decide whether im excited or crazy! feeling nervous already update- absolutely loved it! crowd were amazing cant wait to do another one
Running this with Pod - it will be her first marathon. Hoping to meet up with other Swaledale Road Runners over there.U/D: Ran according to plan; only Pod's achilles tendonitis slowed her down.
Very bad time of it, but got round.
1st ever Mara, can't wait to do it, especially in Paris...Update: The heat got to me, feet swelled creating lovely blisters and black toe nails again... + just ran out of steam, that last 7k seemed to go on forever, but saying all of that still completed it and enjoyed it, and I will definately give the mara another crack, just not this year!
Took it slow at start and just ran an even paced marathon. Really enjoyed it and was happy with my time. Next time will be faster!!
Hmm, not too happy with that, last 10K very tough. Water stations and trying to get out afterwards were shambolic.
First marathon, nice and easy (I think!) PB time. Entered this as didn't get into London...again!
Smokin' Chi Monk
Brilliant course. Perfect weather. Felt comfortable throughout. Placed 4128/31073
I'm looking for sub 4.....
UPDATE - No sub 4 but a PB - happy and disappointed in the same measure, but I'll be back.
Had bad cold and cough. Did not sleep a whole night's sleep during the week prior to the race
Found it very tough, especially after mile 18 where I had very bad stomach cramps for the rest of the race. Splits were reasonably even though. Too many people, not enough space. Maybe big city marathons aren't for me! Paris is fab though.
Rather warm day. Organisation very good. First time with bananas on a run - what a brill idea! First marathon. Not the last! Next one? New York?
Let's just hope I can get round without stopping!
Enjoyed the run, but ran out of energy in the last 5 miles
beautiful day - seemed silly to rush roujnd, just enjoyed the scenery and the atmosphere

Had chronic chest infection in build up to race. Shouldn't really have ran but managed to get round in one piece.
Damaged quad muscle at 9 miles
Fantastic course, great organisation, perfect weather - thoroughly enjoyed it and delighted with my time.
Paris Marathon, the most enjoyable marathon I have done!
