Before race thought that after all the hours I've been putting in at work sub 60 mins would be okay.
At start of race due to sore right leg thought above idea was a good aim.
Half way around and with soreness of right leg making it's presence felt though finishing was a good aim.
Result ... PB by over a minute ... without really trying ??? ... god only knows how lol
A PB by 2 minutes 11 seconds, an unexpectedly result. However, at no point did I feel good or comfortable during this run - a dodgy week leading up to this race left my legs feeling tired and a bit achy. Frustrated that if legs felt better I could have done even better, but this was a much better performance than I was expecting.
1st race since London Marathon and 1 or 2 injuries , set out to run around 57 mins so I'm happy i stuck to that, no reaction from my calf so hopefully I'm over the injury , set out slowly in fact the 1st 5k was very slow , picked it up a little coming home , enjoyed the race as usual and it was very well supported again , back for another Dash next year i think.
Great race, need to inprove the start areas, with proper pens, and the baggage. Two gripes but a top event, course, marshalls.
Woo! Despite feeling pretty grotty, managed to knock over 20 seconds off PB. Didn't check time or pace, just ran according to how I felt. Very surprised when I checked my Garmin after crossing the line...
Aiming for a PB but it will only be a small one.
Woohoo! One of my best racing efforts ever, so pleased to PB.
Hoping for PB on back of recent marathon training! Target for 2010 was to get under 56 minutes but am going to set Garmin for 55mins and go for sub 55. Nice flat course so fingers crossed!!
Did 55 minutes 12 seconds :-). Position 3746 out of 6124 runners and F40 category position 145 out of 406
On the back of my SB at Barnsley today am now hoping for a small improvement in my PB. And I did it - woo hoo!
Leeds Abbey Dash - 53 seconds outside a PB . Took the first half a bit too easy , but only 6 seconds from a SB so can't be too disappointed
Initial target was sub 50 minutes. But have revised my target to sub 55 minutes. This will be a PB if I do succeeed.
The start was pretty crowded, there was a queue for toilets & baggage. But what can you expect with 8000 runners! Quite a fun mood & not too serious; so a good atmosphere for charity & beginner runners. My wife was running her first race & I wanted her to enjoy it.
The race was pretty crowded all the way from start to finish. Lots of overtaking or slowing down because of other runners, though not half as bad as the GNR. I started a wee too fast in the 1st km, but coon calmed myself down. To be honest, I wasn't sure if I could finish within my target of sub-55 minutes. The race prediction calculator suggested a time of just over 55min.It was going to be close!
2nd km to 5th km, I started feeling the build up of lactic acid in my legs. I probably should have done more speed sessions at the pace at longer distances. I felt the doubt creeping in. My morale wasn't helped by the fact that the faster runners were passing by on the other side of the road at the 3km mark!!! :0 The route loops back on itself. There were a couple of cries of "Yo Fetchie!". But I didn't see other fetchies though: where were you guys??!! Probably all wearing club colours. Then approaching the 5K mark was a hill!!! Ok, my garmin showed an elevation of only 25m!
The halfway point at 5km was the turning point psychologically. I was able to hole my target pace so I was right on track, if only I could maintain it. This was the first time that I had ever raced with a Garmin. It was fantastic!! I am now a convert. I could paced myself pretty accuratley all the way & I knew if I was behind or ahead just by glancing at it.
So, by the time I hit the 8K mark, I knew I was heading for a PB. Then, somebody placed this awful big hill on the route!! I though this damn race was supposed to be flat!!!! Ok, so it was more like a gentle incline, but it felt like Ben Nevis! After that, I had just enough energy to sprint to the finish. THen my legs to turned to jelly!
Overall, a well-organised race. Only downside was a 10 minute queue for the bags. But, it was a good atmosphere. Good for beginners, good for PB'ers (provided you start nearer the front). Will seriously think about coming back next year, but may choose a hotel much closer to start i.e. Radisson Blu.
Felt really pleased with this straight after but looking back I feel I could have gone quicker.
power up pete
slower start around seven min miles. kept pace steady under 7.5 min miles. new PB
Good to do another timed 10K on a flat course and a PB too.
Make sure you are in the correct zone for your speed!
ran for corporate challenge - pretty pleased with time. Think I could have gone sub 42
Wanted sub-40 but considering it was my first proper 10k it's okay. I managed to start far enough near the front that there wasn't too much overtaking or crowding. It's a respectable time anyway.
PB for 10km
