Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

FairWeatherRunner Pre-race:

Initial target was sub 50 minutes. But have revised my target to sub 55 minutes. This will be a PB if I do succeeed.

Post-race:
The start was pretty crowded, there was a queue for toilets & baggage. But what can you expect with 8000 runners! Quite a fun mood & not too serious; so a good atmosphere for charity & beginner runners. My wife was running her first race & I wanted her to enjoy it.

The race was pretty crowded all the way from start to finish. Lots of overtaking or slowing down because of other runners, though not half as bad as the GNR. I started a wee too fast in the 1st km, but coon calmed myself down. To be honest, I wasn't sure if I could finish within my target of sub-55 minutes. The race prediction calculator suggested a time of just over 55min.It was going to be close!

2nd km to 5th km, I started feeling the build up of lactic acid in my legs. I probably should have done more speed sessions at the pace at longer distances. I felt the doubt creeping in. My morale wasn't helped by the fact that the faster runners were passing by on the other side of the road at the 3km mark!!! :0 The route loops back on itself. There were a couple of cries of

philbo 1st race since London Marathon and 1 or 2 injuries , set out to run around 57 mins so I'm happy i stuck to that, no reaction from my calf so hopefully I'm over the injury , set out slowly in fact the 1st 5k was very slow , picked it up a little coming home , enjoyed the race as usual and it was very well supported again , back for another Dash next year i think.

Lapsed Athlete Before race thought that after all the hours I've been putting in at work sub 60 mins would be okay.

At start of race due to sore right leg thought above idea was a good aim.

Half way around and with soreness of right leg making it's presence felt though finishing was a good aim.

Result ... PB by over a minute ... without really trying ??? ... god only knows how lol

Grid A PB by 2 minutes 11 seconds, an unexpectedly result. However, at no point did I feel good or comfortable during this run - a dodgy week leading up to this race left my legs feeling tired and a bit achy. Frustrated that if legs felt better I could have done even better, but this was a much better performance than I was expecting.
