Sunday Morning Long Run
20 miles from Teston to Yalding, Laddingford, a loop of the Paddock Wood half marathon course in reverse, then back to Yalding and Teston. The plan was for 3 sets of 2 miles at MP alternating with 2 miles recovery but the conditions weren't really good enough for that, so we continued with the 4:39 per km pace instead. 90% in zone 2 or lower, 10% in zone 3, predominantly the long climb back up to Teston, happy with that and 66 miles for the week! Constant rain for around half of the run then drier with sunny intervals for the remainder. No English Cross Country Championships so Shorne Wood parkrun it is. Jogged up from the car with Finn Rodgers, testing out his calf, seems all good. Started comfortably, chatting with Chris Turner as we went round, Finn got bored behind us and pushed a bit to catch us up. Ran with him until his post injury fitness caught up with him, did a few strides on the final lap and crossed the line for 22:00. Paddock Wood Half Marathon
Went out with the intention of running somewhere between 80 and 85 minutes (3:48-4:02 per km), pushed the pace along and traded places here and there throughout. Began to feel the pace at around 9 miles but upped my effort to combat the fatigue. The last mile felt horrible and I was definitely hanging on at the finish! Strange that 75% of the race was heart rate zone 3, 21% in zone 4 and the rest in zone 2 or lower?? Over the moon with 1:21:12 which is a 4½ minutes improvement on my 2012 PB (also recorded on this route) and a 7 minutes club record!! 🏃💨💪🔴⚫ Onwards to the Lydd 20 next Sunday morning...
