I also take that approach larks. I go straight down the middle of it all and focus on running on my toes through it so that heels dont get sucked into the mud.

I found at the northerns that I would overtake a lot of people in the muddy sections, but then I struggled on the flatter, drier sections. So off that, I'm hoping it's really muddy.

This was the route last time, and it seems they are using it again.

nottsac.co.uk

fetcheveryone.com/t-13509255 was my run in 2017.

The very muddy bit were the grey sections from 7.25 to 7.75 miles in, but the other routes through that area on laps one and two were also pretty difficult. Of course there were other tricky bits, but most of the course was pleasant undulating parkland. I wasn't very fit, but the variable times for each section probably reflect hills or mud fairly accurately.

I take the through the middle approach Larks. At our last fixture which was particularly full of muddy streams I beat a couple of faster local rivals who ended up slipping and sliding round the edges.

Had to smile - best way for muddy patches is run through the middle in a straight line!! Agree with try to run on your toes to prevent heel getting sucked into mud. Any views on 12 or 15mm spikes - ran Southerns in 15mm and that was helpful for the really soggy bits. Probably not much in it?

Sad to DNS this weekend. Virus throughout Jan scuppered winter plans.

Enjoy!

The ECCA is getting very nervous about car parking going by their facebook posts. I'd advise anyone going to park on the University campus and go through the "back door" to Wollaton half way along Derby Road. It's a good warm up distance to the tent area and you get to see the bottom half of the course as you run up to the house.

Plus you save £7 and avoid getting stuck in a muddy field
