6 miles round Allestree Park, Derby in our Derby/Staffs League today. Two laps with some horrendously muddy uphill bits (where walking was more or less inevitable for me!), but some fab downhill bits! My laces were too loose, so felt like I was going to lose shoes at times (Inov8 roclites - maybe not the best for the conditions underfoot?) but didn't want to stop to re-tie as I thought I'd never get going again! Objective was not to get lapped, so succeeded on that score (F60)

Northerns at bedale today. Very flat course for xc but very muddy making it difficult. Finished in 149th which I'm buzzing a out as beat several who would normally be well ahead. Tired now though, the harrier league is normally 10k, not the 12.6k that today was.

anyone else do Southern XC at Parliament Hill yesterday? Tough course which was as muddy as ever. And full 15k. Did get lapped but I suppose only to be expected (MV60).

Glad MACCL at Heaton Park was Saturday not Sunday this weekend! Felt I struggled, partly as I had no motivation to gain or fight for places as if only managed 1 other start in the League this season, but actually ran my quickest of three attempts at that venue. Though I could give solid reasons why the other two weren't full on efforts either.
Son up at NEHL disappointed again with a third event cancellation this season - as he points out, not because of the course, but because of car parking issues. It seems leagues are primarily for car using runners - obvious really, but annoying for those who use public transport / bikes to get there so are unaffected by waterlogged car parks.

Yeah, I'm not overly disappointed with NEHL today, weather is grim and I'm tired so wouldnt have had a great run. It is frustrating that that is 3 of the events cancelled because of car parking though. And today's was only being held today due to inter counties yesterday as they are normally a saturday.

Still out of action, first Heaton Park Maccl I've missed since living up here iirc.
Related, is there a fetch forum thread discussing the #runequal campaign?

It’s appeared on the elite athletics from time to time as a discussion I think rhb, from a couple of years ago. When I‘Ve discussed it before I’ve been accused of having too many testes to be able to offer a valid opinion, and I think there is some validity in that. Though for what it’s worth, if I had any girls as children I’d be appalled that any race in the UK is shorter in distance than it is for men, no matter how many women advocate for a retention of the shorter distance (from polls done a couple of years ago most women still valued the shorter XC distances in southern champs etc).

Larkim - Fwiw, men and women run together in our XC League (Derby/Staffs), distance usually 5.5 to 6 miles

Interesting Larkim, I think everyone should be allowed to voice an opinion on the matter, although care taken to ensure men don't determine the eventual outcome.
Fwiw I think short course & long course options at xc would be the way to go.
Also chip timing to overcome the absurdity of queues to cross finish lines for m.o.p. participants. That's a separate topic though!

rhb - that's my position too. Move to having, say, a 6-8km short course seniors race and a 10-12km long course race at every venue with mixed gender participation. The gender mix might not be very well spread, and there's an argument that that just sets up two races that men will always win (which would be a fair point), but it does facilitate the option for all to run shorter or longer.
The fact that it is endemic from U13s upwards to have shorter distances for girls in some athletics disciplines is just simply wrong - 1200m for girls instead of 1500m on the track for boys for example, or 150m sprints vs 200m sprints (I think the YDL still persists with this, though I've not had my kids in YDL for a while so I could be wrong).
MACCL runs boys and girls together up, but then has a shorter women's senior race compared to the men's (though men are allowed in the women's race, no idea if any woman has asked to take part in the men's race).
Chip timing would be good, but with the speed that MACCL get their results processed I can happily live without that.
