Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Im in training for a HM and was hoping for some advice. A couple of my Sunday runs will be XC races of about 5 miles. I've guesstimated a muddy/slippery, hilly, with streams 5 miles XC course as roughly equivalent to an 8 mile road run on the flat? Would appreciate your thoughts if anyone has any. TIA.

So I disagree with that logic.

All you are doing is making a 5 mile run harder

Spr - had to be done :-)

Shipley Park for the Notts/Derbyshire XC. Course was the same as the North Midlands last month, that is mud and about 200m of climbing on the undulations. Happy to come away with a Silver V65 medal, the best i could have hoped for. The gold winner was a good 4 minutes ahead of me, but he ranks highly in the country never mind Notts. To give an idea of the conditions, i was 20% slower than my last 10k.

XC is very different to a road run. Different muscles in use (or at least in differing proportions). Constantly varying effort levels.

Lots of old timers swear by them as good workouts of course.

Normally the difference isn't quite so big larkim, but i agree with what you said. Best winter training for me, all the effort of speed work without the knees screaming.
