Oscar's Everyone Day

Sunday 23rd June 2024
In 2021 Oscar the Grouch proposed one day each year where "we unite as a community and EVERYONE records an activity of some sort - a dog walk, a run, a swim, a ride, ski if you want...".

Sadly we lost Oscar in March, so I'd like to dedicate Everyone Day to him. Thank you for the inspiration you gave us Oscar.

AJPAR Would like to crack the 20 min barrier but depends on crowds etc.
Arrived late and could only get to about 30 seconds from the start line before the race started. Found the first half of the race impossible to get any real pace going as there always seemed to be someone (or on a few occasions a wall of people running together) in the way. Probably would not run again, especially as it took an hour of standing in the rain to get my bag back at the end Unaffiliated 20:53 22:07 20:40 22:07 68.15
BigEvilC good atmosphere started near front of cast of 1000s, started too fast and faded each mile but not disastorously , very very wet

gbrodie Very very wet! Admitedly my time was per my friends time keeping so fairly rough as we actually started the race 45 min after the official start- ooooops! But due to that no crowd problems. Bedford Harriers AC 35:00 35:00 35:00 47.60

mbc Not bad given the conditions - very wet, the fact you had to weave in and out of slower joggers and walkers (why do they insist on being at the front of the start) and a slight strain in my achilles from the British 10k on sunday. Good fun though. Unaffiliated 25:05 25:05 25:00 25:05 61.90

Rach E Running for HSBC and hope the team qualify for the NY final again! ***UPDATE*** A decent but unspectacular run. Legs wouldn't move faster and finished feeling I could have gone on. A few weeks more base and speedwork and I will be a lot faster. I was 3rd. Aldershot, Farnham & District AC, Team Kennet, Newbury Velo 20:12 20:12 19:59 21:07 78.66
Rapid Snail Very wet, late starting, hundreds of walkers to battle past, overcrowded, over an hour queueing for bag after. Oddly, a very tiring run but even more oddly enjoyable evening. Unaffiliated 27:30 27:30 23:50 27:30 54.41
Running Beer Want to do it a lot faster this year so training hard. Will really earn the beer at the end this time!
UPDATE 2nd July: Judging by my current performance I think 35mins is a more realistic target. I still want to beat 33mins though. Not sure how I will do it, with any luck the crowd will carry me a bit.
FINAL UPDATE: It was wet, very wet! Busy and muddy too. Bit disappointed by time but given the conditions not too bad. Beer afterwards was good! 26.2 Road Runners Club 29:12 35:19 35:00 35:19 41.22

sharmanian Wettest day of the year, but once you're wet, you're wet and it stops mattering. Fun race, but not worth going for a time unless you're right by the start line due to congestion. Luckily I was on the start line, but went a bit slower than hoped...maybe I can blame the water-logged grass sections...or maybe not. 100 Marathon Club, Serpentine RC 19:51 19:51 19:30 19:51 73.34
