I thought it was really good as well. 'Proper Cross Country'! It was quite technical and I liked the hills and the wiggly bit through the woods. I saw one Fetchie (RRR-Caz resplendent in his Fetch hoodie) but that was it! Got my highest finish position of the year, so very happy.

XC this morning at Saffron Walden. Only 4.37 miles, but it was hellish, complete with mud, hills & streams for our enjoyment.

Ours today was proper muddy Same venue on Saturday for the Merseyside Champs - which I am venturing to enter again, last time (2 years ago) I came second from last - so I have plenty to improve on

Well done all! Nothing for us over Xmas so I've been to a couple of XC style parkruns to keep the momentum.
Our County Champs are next Sat, seems like its going to be a wet week so looking forward to it very much!

oi you
I was, I think, next to last in today's Kent County Championship race. That's fair enough I suppose. It's a championship race and rightly attracts a lot of very good runners. And me. The bit I didn't like was the course. It was a 4 lapper round a largely featureless field. It's the carpark/camping site alongside Brands Hatch race track, and it has no real attractions. A bit of woodland or a rocky single-track bit would have broken it up a bit. I found it a joyless trudge round. Didn't feel the love today.

I loved it today - it was stupidly muddy but I ran slightly further than last week, slightly faster - finished 43rd but not sure out of how many, 60 max.

We had our County championship race today at Warley Woods near Birmingham, Warwickshire and Worcestershire combined. Very muddy and some killer hills, plus a flatter trail section which would have been welcome respite in trail shoes but in 15mm spikes was awful! In fact one of my spikes is half the size it was, must have sheared off!
Think I'm getting stronger and beginning to find my XC legs, was 33rd out if 196 and 13th master female for Warks out of 82. Still a lot of room for improvement and my XC performances don't fully correlate to my road racing, but hopefully it's all good strength building. We got a medal trophy thing each for 2nd Warks masters team too, so very pleased with that.
Next league race next weekend at Gloucester - I am told it's a flatter mainly grass course which sounds dull but will hopefully play more to my strengths as I lose time on uphills. Bring it on

Same here Clare with mud, hills, horrid trial section and 2nd Vet team medals at the Notts/Derby champs at Heanor.
Iโm a total novice at this XC business and was well beaten by guys Iโm normally well ahead of on the roads โ the hills arenโt so bad but the mud was an absolute shocker. Good fun and especially enjoyed not having to chase the chaps who came past on the final hill when I realised they were Derbys rather than Notts runners, not that I could have done much about it in any case

I ran the same race as Clare but as part of Worcestershire where they do the results differently, so in terms of the county I was 15th, hahahaha. That is fairly ridiculous but you've got to be in it..... ๐
Great course at Warley, my trusty mud claws never fail me, the muddy hill around the back before the club tents I was able to just let go and make up lots of places with other folks mincing down it.
Not sure if we will get a team for Gloucester, and as much as I love XC I'd rather have a parkrun blast and have the rest of my day than travel all that way to do 6K... ๐
