Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Lol oi! Hope the acquired vest wasn't too smelly!!

Cofton yesterday... Loved it :). Yes it was bloody windy which was so tough, but I felt much stronger than last months XC race and finished much higher up relatively. Had a bit of an energy bonk about half way round as I'd not eaten enough beforehand (1.30pm is a crap time to race!) - had made myself a nutribullet smoothie but left it in the car by accident! Still work to do to get my performances on a par with road racing, but I'm a novice at this. I felt much more confident in my spikes yesterday which helped no end.

Good to meet you stilldreaming, thanks for introducing yourself! Well done you too ndellar x

I think you'll get better still Clare, you definitely find more gains come just with XC experience. I agree its a rubbish time to race, I usually have a later brekkie and then something immediately after.

I've been picking people from the results / who I recognise to try and beat, yesterday I beat "Trentham Lady" for the first time and was right behind the cousin of one of my clubmates who is usually a fair bit higher up than me, so I think that counts as a good run. That wind was just insane.

Before race yesterday I decided to swap my spikes from worn blunt to new 12mm. Could only get 3 done on each side the old ones that rusty - job for later to get them out!

rhb, I was advised to put vaseline in the spike sockets before attaching them to stop rusting.

That's great ndellar. I'm training myself that xc is not about actual pace but about positioning against others! I looked up those who finished just before / after me yesterday on the results from last month and they were all 1-2 mins faster than me at Newbold last month :). I also beat 2 girls from another local club who finished before me last time. From our club I was the same position in 4th but just behind 3rd this time rather than a couple of mins behind. Aim next month is to be 3rd or better from our club :). If I get stronger and plan my nutrition better then hopefully more gains to be had :)

Nice SPR, was it Pitville park? I remember that place being windy on a "not windy" day when we had an XC there a year or two ago.

Sound like you are really progressing Clare. I'm looking forward to the next fixture at Gloucester, are you doing the County/Midland/National champs too?

Yeah Pitville Park. It was gusty day yesterday. I like the course, it's harder than it looks.

Clare yup, my spikes are always greased when fitted. It's not removing & regreasing between races /seasons that makes them stuck!

ndellar, we are just putting in our team entries for the county champs at Warley Woods on 9th Jan which I see you are also down for :). Our club is new on the XC scene really - we dabbled in the Gloucester league about 8 years ago but I only did one fixture, which was Newbold, in road shoes (lol! No wonder it put me off!).

Last year I did a couple of the midland XC races but this year really keen to do them all. We still don't have the men in any of the leagues which is a shame - most of them don't seem interested which I know frustrates the few who are. Hopefully if some of them do the county champs on 9th they will get hooked!
