Gobi
Ironic that my last trip to Gosport was pacing RFJ to his PB as here we are in 2021 and yesterday I paced 1.24 again at Gosport for a friend who RFJ knows from back in the day.

13 miles all within 5 seconds of each other with the fastest being mile 13.

Hard being me Larks

I now have 4 months to prep to run a controlled 1.20 , I may have to do some mileage in the trainers and actually some specific HMP work to do that.

It's actually getting harder to just churn these out off 20 or so miles a week for all yesterday was straightforward for me I have DOMS

despite those years Gobi, you are still knocking out great times and pacing for others too. Great memories

I know this thread is pretty quiet (!) and that there are a few familiar faces from the sub 3:15 marathon thread, but I wanted to tap into peoples' collective wisdom. A sub 85 HM is something of an arbitrary goal for me but I'm looking to find out when other people knew they were in the right shape for one (i.e. particular workouts that went well, 10k times etc).

My HM PB of 1:27:20 is from March 2022 but since then I've been through two marathon training blocks and didn't run full pelt HMs as part of those. I ran Manchester Marathon in April (the less said the better) and I'm running the Great Manchester Run on the 21st just to see where I'm at. The goal race will be a half in October and I'll be looking to work to a specific plan for that.

Pre-covid I did a few sub 40 10ks, even one sub 39, but around the same time I don't think I broke 1:25, so for me I'd say I'd need to be in about 38:00 - 38:30 shape ???

I surprised myself in 2010 with a sub 85 on a course that had a few hills. Downs as well as ups though. This was off the back of 3:04 and 3:06 marathons.

It took me more than four years to repeat that thought and I had resigned myself to it being a one off.

I didn’t do many 10ks back then so don’t really have that as a comparison. I did find though that once I was back under 85 it became a more regular habit. Think I did miss out once or twice but if I remember correctly injuries played a part in my prep.

I agree with Gus. 38min 10k would be a starting point. I was 37:30 for 10k about 6 weeks before running a 85:22 but would have been off fairly low mileage c25-30 per week. I have only ever done two half races in my life, both 85:xx

For sessions I cant really remember. Think my training log is open for all. Nov 2015 I run it!! Feel free to have a look and see what I done. It may not have been very structured though!

I didn’t need to be that quick at 10k. 38:15 pb but sub 1:23 for half marathon. Being sub 39 was more a benchmark, but I didn’t run enough 10ks around then to be a proper comparison
