There's also the "wava" tightening to account for, certainly for me. My 5k PB of 18:14 would be a wava of 80 if I ran it now, which I think is out of reach for me. If I take a recent best, then: 6:06 - 5k 6:13 - 10k (a 38:35 10k) 6:23 - 10m 6:26 - HM (a 84:23 half) would be the spread. 20s per mile between 5k and HM feels tough but up to HM I think parity between WAVA efforts is pretty good (for me at least). It breaks down over that because I wouldn't do the level of training necessary! |

allmatthew - So your 5k to 10k conversion is way out IMO! I have always worked on the basis of double the distance add 15 secs per mile from 5k to HM. I had something like..... 5k - 5:45 10k - 6:00 10M - 6:21 Half - 6:32 (which I think shows my lack of mileage/not as good as longer races) Anyway, thats all in the past for me, add at least a min per mile for today Get a few miles in and 6:47s for 26.2 gives you a nice 2:57/8 Daz Love ![]() |

I took a look and I am / was: 5k: 5:44 10k: 5:52 HM: 6:09 Mara: 6:44 ![]() Given that I ran the HM on 26th March, hopefully that’s actually about where I am…. 5m / 10m frustratingly slower than 10k / HM so omitted them! allmatthew to go back to your original question. As long as I’d got some other decent miles in, I’d be pretty confident of running a HM at the same pace I’d run a 5 mile tempo or maybe a session like 3*2m tempo. What I actually really like to do is run a few HMs in a row over the course of a spring / autumn. In that way you can really look to progress across them. I’ve done that often over the years. Perhaps that’s why I’m so shit at marathons 🤣 |

Never say never WW ![]() Larks - I think 20s per mile between 5k and half is very tight. Saying that WW has 25 seconds (but he is a full time athlete now!!!) |

24 seconds for me with 5:56 and 6:20 those two being just a few weeks apart. I think the gap before that might have been 22 or 23 seconds.

13s per km for me so that's 21 per mile. 5k to HM again. The HM was possibly a bit soft, I wasn't exactly tapered for it, but I doubt I'll match it again now anyway.
