Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

larkim, that is something I find frustrating. I have my garmin setup to show current lap and avge lap. Once the mile alert goes away you see a pace for the current mile that is wrong. It does in time sort itself out but can be vastly out in either direction until it has enough time to be more accurate

On most modern Garmins you can choose current pace to be 5s average. It's less "instantaneous" but more representative, I think. That's what I use for "current pace". :-) G

Baz, that's why I've used those "most recent 60s" type fields in the past - removes that problem early in the "lap".

I'll have to see where that 5s average pace can be set, Happy - couldn't immediately see it on my watch just now, but it might not be present.

Although the advantage of the "current mile pace" is it makes me run faster in the early part of each mile to keep it constant.... ;-)

I actuually do find it's normally settled by the time I've done about half a mile when I first start off, and thereafter it seems pretty constant?

Happy - where's that set? Not something I've ever noticed. Not that I've ever looked for it :-)

Jubear, the other option for importing routes is to connect the device to a PC and drag the .GPX over as a file.

Thanks all. I already have my Garmin to show current avg mile pace so I guess I'll turn the bloody alerts off and try to get better at judging snail pace without too much watch-gazing.

I use a footpod for instante pace. My fenix 6 is atrocious for it, much worse than my previous watches

Agree that the instantaneous pace is useless. On my Fenix 5, I used lap pace and had autolap set for a mile. At the start of every new lap, the pace was usually nonsense and would take a quarter of a mile to stabilise. I disabled autolap and the average is consistent but is a less and less sensitive indicator of any change in pace as the run proceeds.

I use 10s pace on my garmin which works pretty well. It's a one element of a custom screen with about 8 data fields which covers pretty much everything I could want....

8 data fields?!! Wow, you must have good eyesight or glasses/contacts! :-)
