I would say the nav is fairly straightforward especially with so many other runners about. Though there are one or two little corners where it is easy to take a misturn mainly in the towns. I saw a couple of people miss the turn in Todmorden and the second year I started to go up the wrong climb in Hebden Bridge.

Mind you, I'm not going to be going so fast that I will be a huge problem and I expect to have other runners in sight. I am neither fast enough to be trail blazing, nor so slow there is no one in sight. I'm looking forward to it! |

Gromit wrote: Also while we’re on hobble chat I wonder if there will still be the option to do the early start for “walkers” as the FRA has banned that ? They allowed it last year. And from memory - but I’m not saying this with authority as I wasn’t going to use it - they said they’d got permission to use it for this race. |

I’d suggest you contact the organiser with questions. He’s accommodating when it comes to early starts etc. And the nav isn’t bad. I only got lost once when showing other runners the route on a recce two years ago ![]() |

Plenty of road and harder packed trail on the race route, with some grass and mud thrown in on a couple of sections. Last year my feet were by far the least sore / blistered they’d been after Hobbling and it was my tenth outing. I’m a big fan of the Speedgoat to the point I have two pairs unworn laid in for future use Me too - get em on sale and stock up |

zp wrote: @larkim Races run under FRA rules forbid the use of GPS devices to aid navigation. Yep, I know that. But I'd use a GPX to plot what the route ought to be in advance, maybe for recce purposes or just to do a desktop exercise to check out the route. No reason not to use a GPX for that, which is what I had in mind. |

talking of The Hobble, anyone want a place? - I think I still have time to transfer it if so. Too much life stuff having the potential to get in the way, so not properly motivated to train well enough |

Thanks for the advice everyone. I remember hearing good things about the Speedgoat but had forgotten until you all reminded me. Thanks also @K5 Gus for the explanation of the Inov 8 range which I was confused about
