Haworth Hobble might be a good guide to the original question. Plenty of road and harder packed trail on the race route, with some grass and mud thrown in on a couple of sections.

Last year my feet were by far the least sore / blistered they’d been after Hobbling and it was my tenth outing. I’m a big fan of the Speedgoat to the point I have two pairs unworn laid in for future use |

Scott's are quite comfy. I found them a little sloppy, but if you have wider feet they would be fine. I pretty much live in Salomons, various models. Going a little bigger size wise has meant more recent pairs have lasted longer. My 'almost due to go in the bin' pair of Speedcross 5 have over 900 miles in them. |

Seeing as the Hobble has been mentioned... @Derby Tup how easy/hard is the navigation on first sight? I had missed the fact it's run under FRA rules and therefore no GPX available. This isn't a major issue as both my run partner and I can use a map and compass no bother. Thinking of purchasing the race map in advance. Just useful to know I guess as I doubt we're going to make the remaining recce outings. |

There'll always be a GPX that you can grab from someone else's |

Also while we’re on hobble chat I wonder if there will still be the option to do the early start for “walkers” as the FRA has banned that ?

There probably is, but I'm not allowed to use it on the day!

@larkim Races run under FRA rules forbid the use of GPS devices to aid navigation.
