I'll be following P&D up to 55 18w in the build-up to London but will jump in at week 3 at the start of January rather than following a strict plan over Xmas. The training I'll be doing for the rest of the year will form a more than adequate base. Looking fwd to it!

Clare, I'm similar, so won't be following religiously. My base will be 30 mpw already by then, with weekend run of 12-15, so I don't think it matters too much how I build into it. I'm just using it as a reminder of

* general mileage
* speed work and when to put in some intervals and tempos
* long run and when to start putting in MP
* when to put in some tester races (and when NOT to race!)
* cut back weeks and taper (not that I usually forget to taper!)

I've got XC in Jan and Feb and a couple of other favourite races and I just need to juggle around them too. :-) G

I like the structure of the p&d plans, but still not keen on intervals at 5k pace.

I prefer following Daniels for the interval sessions.

I went back to this after my post in 2019 that bloke was a joke.

Nothing to beat easy runs building mileage with midweek Medium runs, speed/tempo then long run every weekend. With a cut back every 4 weeks. I got my half, 5 mile and nearly Marathon pb this year before the heat finally caught up with me about mile 18/19.

What's your issue with the intervals fozzy? Too fast and wondering if they translate into effective marathon development?

I think Daniel's paces for intervals, repetitions and threshold are better than P&D.

I think you're partly wasting the effort if you do the p&d intervals sessions, particularly at 5k pace as they're not intense enough and some don't have enough volume.

I like the overall structure of the p&d plans, I'd just drop in a Daniel's interval session instead of the p&d one.

I get it's a *marathon* plan, not a 5k one, but personally I think you're missing out on easy gains if you stick to 5k pace.

I also think faster intervals during marathon training sets you up better for faster races post marathon too.

I followed it when I ran on the road many moons ago and ended up running a marathon at 5k pace 😱 ok, 5k pace isn't exactly fast for me...
