Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Excellent new venue for the Warwickshire / Worcestershire championships today, HMPS college, Newbold Revell. Fairly flat but interesting course with some technical bits and a slope on each lap which wasn't too cruel upwards but made for a nice gentle descent to cruise down. Slightly too many stony tracks which weren't nice in spikes but plenty of scope to run on grass banks at the side - I'd have considered trail shoes if I'd known but no harm done. Slightly disappointed i didn't race it flat out as I'm also racing tomorrow, as its the type of XC course that plays to my strengths (ie not hilly!), but did enough to count as 2nd counter of the masters 3rd team - not bad considering we had a couple of notable absences today in the team. Legs feel fine at the moment so hopefully I've held enough in reserve to have a decent crack at the Centurion 5m tomorrow - always a risk of having 2 mediocre races through going slightly too hard in one, that then jeopardises the 2nd...

XC League resumes today, the only course that has never changed in this league so a good benchmark run.

Also I spotted that National xc had individual entries online link this year so am off to Leeds at end of Feb with 1 other clubmate!

@RHB - funny you should say that Heaton Park hasn’t changed, as the guys I ran next to at the start got to the foot of the downhill start and said “I was expecting to go left, they must have changed the course” and I was thinking “This is the only course I’ve ever seen run at Heaton Park, what have you lot been drinking??!?”

A poor run for me today, spent too much time charging around before the race looking for one of my boys who had decided to take a walk in the park without telling us, and after a week of cold / flu to start the year and only one run done between 2nd Jan and today I wasn’t expecting miracles, so got what I deserved. Finished more strongly than I’d expected though.

@Larkim that sounds a stressful build up, sorry to hear. Positive you finished strongly.

I started last lap about 95th (someone was counting aloud at the turn point) and finished 80th so very happy with last lap after a tougher than anticipated intro to a new track group on the Fri night which I knew would compromise xc a bit.

As its my benchmark course Im pleased to note I went sub 40 on the course first time ever, about 90s faster than prev best so things look to be going right direction.

The Div2 Men / Div1 ladies Birmingham league course at Burton Dassett yesterday was absolutely awesome. I am slightly biased as it was designed and put on by my club, but a proper course reminiscent of some of the N Staffs league old style courses. Nice to see a few new venues that are not in essence football pitches in the fixtures this season.
