Thanks for the good wishes everyone. The ladies MWCCL results are out, but my facebook feed is suspiciously missing the usual comedy photos and videos from Leamington.

I supported at Leamington xc and yes they did miss out the ditch. I was told it was due to there not being enough water to create the ditch properly (they dam it the day before usually), so I guess the residual sludge was even more toxic than usual and so for h&s reasons they has to divert. It still had some mud plus the killer beacon twice for ladies, 3 times for the men. We stood up on the beacon rather than by the ditch, to yell out encouragement/ abuse / random phrases as they slogged up it!!

I didn't particularly enjoy my race yesterday - it was even muddier than the last time (which I was informed was exceptional!) - I felt quite weighed down by the mud on my shoes by the end!

I've 16 nasty fly bites on my legs from Boggart Hole xc. Milder temp probably had them out feeding. Lots of other runners reporting the same.

I've had some horrible bites after XC races in November, blamed standing spectating around stagnating water (namely that ditch at Leamington). I feel your pain!
How far do you go with H&S at an XC... it's XC. The reason we don't go through that lovely little wooded footpath towards the ditch any more is because some guy broke his leg there on a tree root, which he could have probably done stepping on litter outside his house. I can understand if you're going to be sliding down a vertical drop like at Alton Towers a few years ago.

Ndellar the risk of breaking your leg on a tree root you can't see because of 100s of runners is a lot higher than stepping out for a run at home! I imagine that's why it has come out as it was high risk.
A toxic ditch that could cause issues for the health of runners (presuming this is why it came out) isn't worth maintaining 'true XC'.

We (well a couple of us), were wondering if our League might need to look at changing how our races are held. At the moment we all (men & women) run the same course at the same time, but the numbers running have nearly doubled in the last 3 years. This is great of course - but some venues are struggling to cope - not least ours which is a 4 lap course.
