Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

It always amazes me why more people don't do XC it's great knowing the issues Nat is talking about people just go missing when it comes to it.

I've rebranded them as "cake and booze opportunities" in our club. That seems to be working!

My club is the same. 100 members but less than 10 of us have done a XC event. We have a choice of West Glam or Gwent league with 3 fixtures within 20 minutes drive, another 2 within a 30-40 minutes and the rest not much more than an hour. However, 25 of our club have signed up for a multi-terrain 10 miler this weekend which is a good hours drive for most?!

Our numbers have picked up steadily in the last couple of years (along with everyone else's so the league races are quite crowded this year!) - it is interesting hearing how other leagues organise things. We find that people seeing which club members are doing certain things is a good way of widening the appeal - the more 'ordinary' runners - like myself - who are spotted amidst the very speedy ones, the better as far as turnout is concerned. cake helps :)

Cross country is the perfect excuse to wear the club vest (with nothing underneath) and very short shorts (with even less underneath)

LOL maybe not but it gets me in touch with my inner Alf Tupper.

I've yet to see a picture of myself during cross country season when I'm not smiling like a loon

Agree - I'm usually grinning too! It's something about the mud and daftness aspect - it's when grown-ups get to 'play out' again!

Last Sunday we had a race that was basically a flat 2 lapper round a park. But on each lap, you had to run down an embankment, through a brook and up the other side. Twice. That's 4 crazy, death defying, acts of sheer madness. One of our supporters filmed us and stuck it up on the club FB page. Grins and hysterical laughter all round

I think this Saturday I was inwardly smiling! I surprise myself in XC how kamikaze I become on the downhill and through hazards.

Here is some footage of the ditch at we ran through at Leamington the other week, and a chap who lost his shoe. Bad enough without people stepping on you and a small dog going bonkers at you. I like the crowds reaction when he finally gets it!
