Well done all 3 of you!
ndellar - are you in several leagues, to be at 3rd race of the season already? My club also does the Met League which I find a lot tougher going, but I bailed on the first one of the season in case I wrecked my marathon chances.
Curly - have you ever run the Orion 15? I think that's around Epping Forest and is renowned for being a toughy (http://www.orionharriers.org.uk/fif15.htm) Love these guys' website, particularly what they have written on the 3rd line down, where you might expect to see a welcoming slogan.
Autumnleaves - don't knock your performance. If you kept other teams from bagging that 77th place, you helped make it more difficult for them to win

FC thanks - I know that really, it's one of the reasons I like x-c - it is a team effort 😀

I havent but they have recommended it to me. It may be a little too close to marathon this season, but I am keen on the Mercury 10 miler (I'm not sure if that is an open race or I have earned an invite to their club race because I banged on about how much I enjoyed running in the forest!). I've done the London Loop through there too - its all fab, if seriously hilly.
We're off to London XC Champs in a few weeks so need the hill practice before slogging up Parli Hill.
Agree with FC, AL - XC is about the placings and keeping others out of your place. Doesnt matter if you are first or last in your team. You re there making a difference.
Oh its also about cake - I made peanut butter cookies for yesterday. Not nearly enough of them though :O

Definitely about the cake! And so true its a team effort
We run in 2 leagues -
N Staffs - starts end of Sept, done by Xmas - "traditional" courses Leek has the steepest hill ever! Birmingham - starts Nov, 2 before Xmas 2 after. Variable courses some are just footy pitches some forests and hills We also do midlands XC relays and midlands 5 & 7 a one off event before Xmas then county, region and national championships after Xmas
So far we've had 2 x N Staffs + XC relays - between mid Oct and Xmas you could do one pretty much each weekend.
All our leagues and races have separate men's and ladies races, apart from the XC relays, interesting all running together for once.

That's a lot of cross country! I suppose if I ran both the Met and Sunday leagues, plus every XC champs the club advertises, it'd be up to about 14 or 15 races. Then there's the Chiltern League, which the club is eligible to run in but no one hardly ever does. Sunday is men and women running together, and a bit of a more relaxed atmosphere than the Met with all the different race categories and a lot more mud.
Cake sounds good. I saw someone today with a flask of coffee and decided I'm definitely doing that once the temperature drops!

oi you
T'was round 2 of Kent League yesterday. My moment of being last draws closer, I'm afraid. Yesterday I was 177th of 179 finishers. It does sound a bit better if I say 4th of 6 M60/65. I was speaking to the feller at 178 and he'll not be running for a while as he's having a hernia repair jobby done soon.
Gluten-free lemon drizzle cake was my contribution. Well I liked it.

I don't want to speak too soon, but we are getting good numbers out at the moment and cake bribery might have something to do with it - in reality I think it's the tea / cake / chat afterwards that bonds everyone. Also if you get a little group of lads who get a bit competitive they all turn up trying to outdo each other. I absolutely love the atmosphere at our XCs at the moment.
We have a V65 lady at our club who is nearly always last, she always has the biggest smile and gets the biggest cheer. XC is tough at any age, so respect!

Any XC coming up this weekend? I'm running my first Met League of the season up in Stevenage. Hoping I can run it in my trail shoes rather than my spikes as I'm not all that keen on them - it's a battle just trying to crowbar my feet into them before the start of a race! Weather reports suggest rain is saving itself specifically for when the race is on.
