As I'd expected another DNS in the Norfolk champs today. So bringing to an end (almost certainly) my most disappointing cross country season ever.

I too like downhills! Just let the legs relax and speed you down the hill instead braking to stop you, and think of a controlled fall.

Hammered down the hills today! One of the best xc races I've ever done...
Worked my way into the race; I was concentrating on the U15's in my race but there were also U17's to keep with too. With 3k to go, I thought I would surge to the front as I thought the pace was slacking and then we hit constant mud. It was proper cross-county before reaching a sharp incline. Rolled up that and chucked myself down the hill before a flat, ultimate mile.
Had a good 15 second lead over everyone - was perplexed as to where everyone was... felt very fluent and light today as I completed the muddy 5.1k course in 17:30.
Some good area standard runners from both age groups today and first ever under 15 to win the joint race outright so all in all very pleased.
I don't really know what happened yesterday - but maybe I just like the flat... next race Wiltshire schools before Southerns!

Well run CB.
Around here, you pretty much have to learn to descend well. There are quite a lot of experienced fell runners who drop like stones and you'll go backwards very quickly if you can't at least vaguely follow. Leaning forward and turning your feet over very quickly helps, but it's largely about being able to switch your brain off and having the confidence to correct when you possibly go too far. Chasing a good descender down hill can help.
A small local handicap sitting aside of our main xc series, and based on one of the courses today. Lovely twisty slightly technical but fast course. Ran surprisingly well given my crap fitness at the moment. I do like handicaps, especially when you set off in groups of similar pace so have obvious people to push you from the start, and then the massing of everyone in the last half mile - it just keeps you pushing as the field never thins, you're generally quicker than those ahead but also permanently being hunted!
