Finally did my first XC race...in Surrey...there was sooooo much mud, it was awful...plus the 20+ miles I've done in the last week gave me tired legs...last senior woman. I wasn't there to prove anything, just for the experience being the first time and all. I finished and was smiling at the end (more out of relief for having finished, I think!).
Callum - positive thinking can get you the answer to your question...believe in yourself and from the sounds of it, you're definitely fit enough, so go for it!:):) Read Charlie Spedding's book From last to First...he talks about that a bit. It's quite interesting how just changing your mindset can make a huge difference.

Well done Garfield!
- I've read it actually; it's a very memorable quote.

Wasnt it just a total mudfest today Garfield?!? Sooo boggy even on the flt bits. Urgh. Well done - the standard today was really high as well. Are you doing Surrey League next weekend? Have you got the bug yet?
Callum - totally agree about learning about yourself and racing tactics is very useful. The above expectation run will happen at some point but running never works to our timetable, only to its own. Had to learn that over the last few years myself, but fitness gains often come months after you think they should!
Same race as Garfield for me - ran like a bit of a donkey, but better than at Nonsuch previously so am getting better. Ran with some very fast women but they pulled away towards the end so more to work on. Pleasingly I was 40th overall which beat my target - still over 7 mins off from the winner mind, but only about 3 and a half from my clubmate who gets selected for inter-counties so thats encouraging. A long way off that standard at the moment obviously!

oi you
Kent Champs were held today too. It was 12.3km for the men, on a fairly unexciting course. It was as close to flat as you'll get, and the ground was pretty soft without being particularly muddy - just a bit slick in a few places.
A quick scan of the provisional results had me as 165th of 180 - looking for a slightly more positive story I think I was 5th of 10 Vet60s.
Parliament Hill is next!!! That'll be a bit more fun (if that's the right word for it)
Well done to all the XC runners today.

Did Cumbria champs in Keswick. Seemed a strong field, not sure who won. I didnt race it properly as not race fit at the moment but good fun all the same.

I've definitely got the bug but won't be able to go next week as I'm out of town...I'll be doing the next one in Feb though. My legs will definitely benefit from all this work though...they'll definitely get stronger.
Callum, from your post, I suspected that you had read the book!:)

Thanks SPR; I thought I was being slightly insane with a debut at a county champs...but was good for the experience for future reference.:)

Well run Callum, will you run the intercounties and how do you expect to go there?
Herts for me tomorrow, I had hoped to be in with a shout of selection but the race has come too soon. We should be in with a chance of a team medal though.
