Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I'm just awaiting dr appointment after having routine bloods done
Although I generally feel ok it's not as good as pre diagnosis, I'm guessing that I will never be normal again!

Cuddy
I'm a lucky one, with a small dose of thyroxine I feel massively better, back to what I felt like before aaaaaages ago. Biggest difference has been the tiredness and sleeping. Before I needed 9 hours a night and naps, now I do nicely with 7.5 hours, no naps. Funniest thing is that I've started remembering my dreams again, which I didn't for years.

I think it's the tiredness and lethargy that annoys me , occasionally my joints all ache but I guess I just get on with it!

Hi. Just came across this thread :-)

I have an underactive thyroid gland too. Actually I first had an overactive one, went through treatment (carbimazole and thyroxine) it stablised for a few years, then during early pregnancy with my second daughter it decided to play silly buggers and went underactive.

My overactive (happened about 18 years ago) took a a couple of years to be diagnosed. It was awful before diagnosis. I felt constantly stressed-out and exhausted and used to get bouts of shaking. I didn't lose much weight though. I kept going to the doctors as I knew something wasn't right and he kept prescribing me anti-depressants which I didn't want to take (and didn't). Eventually, I was diagnosed because I developed a large swelling at the side of my throat.

My underactive was quickly diagnosed, as since having an overactive thyroid gland my blood was still checked regularly. I'm glad it was as I became very depressed with feelings of not being able to cope with the pregnancy. As soon as I started taking a thyroxine supplement, WOW, what a difference. I went from a depressed, confused, exhausted wee thing to a very happy and excited mother-to-be in a space of a week.

That was about 13 years ago and I'm still on 100 micrograms a day and get my blood tested about every 6 months. Some days I feel really exhausted and go on a downer for no reason at all and fall asleep during the day. Have always thought that this is caused by the hypothyroidism - maybe levels fluctuate and go well below normal sometimes. Having said that things for me are generally OK, though I do get brain fuzz now and then. Is this related? Not sure.

I know you're entitled to free prescriptions (even if it's not thyroid related) when you're on a thyroxine supplement. It doesn't effect me anymore as I live in Scotland and nobody pays for prescriptions anymore up here, but when that wasn't the case, I always got mine free. Those living elswhere should get any of their prescriptions free - that's if it's still the same as it was several years ago and hasn't changed.

Hope you get sorted J*C and start feeling better very soon.
