Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I used the MAF test. And will revert to maffetone after the sharpening FIRST programme I'm on at the moment.

Bob!
So, having done 2 months of maffetone training I've seen no improvement in time v hr.

How are those of you on here from a year ago getting on now?

Hey Bob. What heart rate are you running to? You are 55+? so I am assuming that you should have a max heart rate of 125 or less? But a quick peek at your training suggests that your run much quicker than that, with a higher heart rate? Could explain the lack of progress?

Bob!
I'm using +5, so aiming for a heart rate of 129bpm.
After posting yesterday I did a MAF test last night and saw a 15 sec per mile improvement over my initial test at end of November.
All is well.

I'll be base training the next few months ahead of building to a 50miler (!) at end Oct. This low intensity rule of thumb seems ideal. Need to read more on it but finding running at 140bpm a refreshing change.

Bumpity-bump.

Few friends are on the Maffetone bandwagon at the moment and I am considering joining them.

Will also be doing the carbohydrate intolerance test (after my holiday...)

What is 180-age-5? That's not Max HR. Or is MAF setting that as the highest HR you should be training at? i.e. a % of Max HR?

And why use XXX - age at all? Why not just do a real Max HR test? It's not difficult to do and it's so massively variable. My max HR is 193, because I've seen it. But 220-age would say 172. That's a huge difference! Would put all your training zones out the window! :-) G
