Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Ran this morning after just doing evenings for weeks.Really enjoyed the sun on the river and the fact that there was hardly anyone around. I look forward to the weather being cold too...as long as it's not blowing a gale and hissing down.

Hello all.

Nice easy 5 mile recovery run for me today and beautiful sunshine to run in again. Marathon training seems to go up and down a bit, especially on an 18 week schedule, which is the longest schedule I have ever done (not that I have really followed a schedule properly at all before this one). There have been times when I have felt extremely tired, but other times when I have felt like I've got so much energy that I wanted to do so much more than the schedule indicated; but I resisted that temptation.

Going into this weekend, I was probably more tired than I have been at any other time during my marathon training, and I wondered how on earth I was going to manage the 10 miles at marathon pace on Saturday, followed by 22 miles on Sunday. Saturday's run was completed at 20 seconds per mile faster than marathon pace, and then I thought that I was really going to struggle on Sunday. I didn't struggle on Sunday and the pace per mile was 65 seconds per mile slower than marathon pace (the schedule suggested between 45-90 seconds slower than marathon pace).

This morning my legs felt really tired before my run and I though that it was going to be a very slow recovery run. These runs are done on a combination of my heart rate and how my legs are feeling, and I thought it might be about 10 mins per mile today, but it was 9:20, and to be honest it felt so easy that I think I should probably have gone a bit faster.

At the moment, all the hard work seems to be paying off and my runs are feeling really good.

I think everyone did very well and I have to admit I was a bit jealous of all of you, but I couldn't have gone along anyway.

Did 2 hours 15 min yesterday at 70-75%, and 5km at 65-70% today to recover. Yesterday was fun, today was obscenely hot, no-one should sweat that much during a gentle jog :(

I had a good run yesterday. Was in some town called Landshut near Munich at a work do. Managed to get out for 40 minutes with a colleague for a pretty fast run along the river. It was gorgeous.

Was a bit concerned by my running partner though - discovered he has a 5K PB of 14:40 or so a few years back, and now regularly does 10K leg of triathlons in sub-34 mins. Lordy lord that's different class.
So when we were flying around at about 6:30 pace he was chatting away normally as if it was a recovery run! I was having to work a little harder to get some oxygen in me!

Kinell BB. I just could not do that pace for 40 mins. I need more speed :-)

Just been on a nice recovery run for 7 miles or so.

Last night did some heavy hill work for 5 miles or so. Enjoyed it but can't get my data off me Garmin due to windows reinstall following hard disc failure.

It's all good fun eh?

Yes, I'm on Heidi's machine but it's old and slow... :-)

I had a good run, but I will be glad when a) summer is over and b) the great south run is over, so that all the miserble gits who don't say hello or even look at you on the seafront go back to watching tv instead of running in the evening. I will also be quite pleased when drivers are forced to retake exams or hazard perception tests on a regular basis so that they don't try their best kill me when I'm running. The same applies for when I'm on my motorbike but this is a running thread. Same principle though!

(notice I didn't mention it was a woman driver?)
