There was a good twist it reminded me of Doris Lessing the fifth child

Just finished Wise Children. It will definitely not be staying on my book shelf. So the book I have chosen is There but for the (Ali Smith) |

Excellent timing Lorraine - I shall go to the indie Book Shop on my way to the Beachy train later.

I quite enjoyed WKTTAKevin. Now see I’m not supposed to be reading fiction while focusing on my course but the opportunity to re-read an Ali Smith... |

I really liked WNTTAKevin. I think Bint read the Paul Hollywood version I think I've read it at least twice, if not three times. Will definitely be reading the Ali Smith. |

I read Lionel Shriver's "So much for that" and really, really didn't like it. It's about the effect of illness (cancer) on family/friends. It's sort of pitched as blackly humorous (and I like black), but came across as mirthless and dour. There's a streak of judgementalism I didn't care for that wasn't just authorial voice. I don't much care for her views on Brexit either (not that that should matter).

Couldn’t get hold of a copy of There but for the (TBFT) so I’ve started The Sundial by Shirley Jackson. It was written in 1958 and it really shows.

I REALLY like Shirley Jackson. Haven't read The Sundial, though. |

I loved “We Have Always Lived In The Castle” by Shirley Jackson. My current audiobook is Long Summer Day by RF Delderfield, which is very long. I always look for books that will last me a month in the car. I am also re-reading “Books Do Furnish A Room” (A Dance To A Music Of Time #10) for a podcast recording I’m attending in November. |
