I was almost keeping up for the first eight weeks of my marathon training last year - but fell away a bit. If nothing else, it's a great book.

It is indeed a great read Fetch. Tough with the minimum plan being 35-55 miles per week (and the biggest one topping out at 120 miles per week!! :-O ) but everyone I know has had good results with it.

You all fixed now? Achilles behaving? :-) G

Left achilles hasn't had a chance to ache, because my right calf stopped me running for a week. Back to first continuous run (4mi) last week, and hoping to build on that now. Still doing heel raises.

Hello! I bought the new edition of this book very recently. For the 18w up to 55 mile plan, there is very little difference to the 2nd edition but I haven't spent time reading the chapters properly or comparing anything else yet across the versions of the book. Had a lot of success with the plan to achieve my marathon PB and also got a half PB in the build-up.

I will loosely be following the plan through the winter to train for my spring marathon.

I am on the final week of 18w / 55 mile plan, previously followed up to 70 mile plan and that has always worked well for me, we shall see what happens on Sunday in Poznan :-)

Having bought and read the new edition of the book, I would advise anyone else who has the original edition not to bother upgrading. The main addition is a chapter on "masters athletes", possibly prompted by Mr Pfitzinger now being Of A Certain Age himself, but it's short and superficial and the subject is better covered elsewhere. The schedules aren't significantly different.

Though in their favour, Messrs. P and D have kept off the low-carb bandwagon :)

Good schedules and even if you only do the volume, it will put you in a decent place. Add the quality and fly... :-)

I thought Mr P said he'd introduced more hill suggestions or something. The original plans have stood test of time. :-) G

Yes, why fix what's still working? I'd certainly encourage anyone who hasn't looked at Advanced Marathoning to do so.
