Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Is this thread still going ? I'm looking at starting the P&D 18 week up to 55 miles plan in a couple of weeks ahead of london.

I just started running the Marathon distance this year and I have run 6 in total, last one was NYC a few weeks ago. My current PB was 3:26 in Berlin. my previous plans had me peaking at 45 miles a week.

I am aiming for a 3:15 in London, I seem to be able to manage the paces but i fade terribly towards the end (mostly from mile 17) I was wondering if the 55 mile plan is enough for my target or do you think a 11min improvement target is too ambitious for a single training cycle ?

The P&D schedules are good. Without knowing more about your previous training it's hard to know whether they would be able to help you improve by that much. You are still relatively new to marathons so would probably improve anyway but 45 miles as a peak isn't terribly high volume and the higher mileage of the P&D plan would help you to improve your stamina, which seems to be your weak point.

Thanks becca7, i was previously just following the endomondo plan and you correctly assumed stamina was my main problem.

I've just uploaded my training to the site but headline is that i was pretty religious in following the prescribed plan from the endomondo app. Main problem was that i found the long runs pretty tough.

Tough in what way? Mentally or physically. If they were hard because you went out at too fast a pace that could be why you have tended to fall in a hole from mile 17 in races, as you will have failed to build stamina.

It's almost always because i start out too fast. At Berlin i started out slower which helped. Reading the P&D book i have realised a lot of the mistakes i made this year. I'm posting on here because i was hoping not to make the mistake of being "over ambitious" in my target.

If you've got 3:26 while making errors you've got plenty of room for improvement and I don't think that your target is over ambitious but see how it fits in with your times from shorter distances. fetcheveryone.com/training-calculators-racetimes.php

SKR - come over to the 3:15 thread. There are a large number of P&D disciples there and, well, your target hits the name of the thread!

I've done P&D loads of times and ran 3:15 and lower off the 55 mpw schedule. Your mileage looks OK - sure you'll do more on P&D but the transition shouldn't be too big.

Come on over, seriously!

I used P&D 18/55 for my Brighton and Abingdon marathons this year after using Hal Higdon intermediate for my marathon debut last year. The higher mileage definitely helped me, and being disciplined in the early (1-20) miles is very important.

6 marathon's in your first year?! Wow. I thought I had pushed it at three.
