I'd need 7:23 for 71%, Goofee. This would be a stretch. I'm more likely to get over 70% for ten miles or a half marathon. I've had 75% for ten miles and a 74% and two 71% for the half marathon in the past.

Good timing on this thread. My 5K PB from last month was my first race over 70% WAVA barring my 800m track races many years ago. Need to lose another 45secs or so off my 10K time though. |

I think my best chance would be if I trained properly for mile distance, as I once ran 6:53 with very bad pacing and after standing around getting cold after parkrun - that was 2013, though, and I’m nowhere near that now. Maybe 100 metres - again, after training. Not much chance at the moment, even if I could find a race, but I’ll be watching for inspiration purposes.

V'rap they are impressive past WAVAs for 10 miles and half, I see you have some booked in later this year, a best ever Fetch standard maybe? Well done Akie! I see your Fetch standard is at 68% this year, maybe look at getting that up to 69% as a short-term goal? beebop, what about a trip over to the big Fetch mile in Manchester? Something to aim for... |

My highest WAVAs are for the mile and 5K - but I find the shorter distances so hard!

Right I also have a legit reason to join the thread. I am aiming for a 70% WAVA on my long jump. I've already done it on the high jump (to my astonishment - 76.6 last year and 74 so far this year) but LJ is harder to do well on even though it's 'easier'. I'm currently on 66.1 % from last Wednesday's with 3.13 metres (best for a couple of years) I need another 19 cms - 3.31 for 70.1%. My 3.45 PB aged 58 only got 64.8, so I'm sort of doing better. 19 cms might not sound much.... can I do it! |

Yeah I definitely fall into the category of the shorter the distance the higher WAVA score.

Hmm, worth a thought, Goofee - for a baseline rather than a serious chance if it’s anytime soon...

You CAN do it, Sharkie Goofee, don't take anything in the "future" section of my race portfolio seriously. The only things in it that are booked and paid for are the 5k on 27th June (hoping to improve on my parkrun times) and the Belfast half in September which I'm likely to run with my daughter as it'll be her first half marathon. She's training nicely, but I'll be surprised if she manages sub-2hrs. I do intend to enter the Carlisle half marathon, though. It looks like a fast course and I don't need to set the tarmac alight to get a 70% WAVA at that distance. |
