We had our final race of the season yesterday with (considering the recent rain and snow melt) pretty dry conditions underfoot. I ran much better on the second lap (though everything is relative ), which underlined for me the fact that I never warm up properly before racing! Next season I'm going to try to rectify this ... just got to get my head around the fact that I won't wear myself out by warming up well and that I'll feel the benefit during the race. We shall see I always panic about warm ups emptying my tank😀 |

Does anyone know how residence Vs birth county affiliation works? Son lives up in the NE now and their XC champs are in a couple of weeks. His birth county is Cheshire and their XC champs are first weekend of the new year, so convenience wise he's got a chance to run either of them. He's only ever run in Cheshire champs before. If he ran NE champs I'd guess that would bar him from racing Cheshire in the same season, but can you switch each year as you fancy? |

Larks, last I looked, yes you could switch.

Each year I'm pretty sure you can do although not checked myself. IIRC the resident rule is 9 months which fits with that. What I don't know is if you can run XC for one county, then switch to another county for track, then potentially back again.

Cheers, it's an interesting question of loyalties! Wonder if you could race xc champs for one county but get picked for the intercounties for another? I'd guess strongly not, but for some runners who want to represent their county travelling back for the champs might be quite an upheaval. |

I'd have thought that was unlikely because the county champs are a selection race for the inter counties so I imagine that would kick up a fuss even if it was technically allowed.

Spreadsheet in progress comparing the distances for M/F across age ranges from U13 to seniors. Quite alarming that there are still Counties where U15 and U17 women are treated to shorter courses than the young men are. The senior level debate about equalisation is different, to a degree, but I'm pretty shocked any County sees fit to have a 500m shorter course for young women. docs.google.com Feel free to populate with your locality! |

"The senior level debate about equalisation is different, to a degree" I'd be more inclined to agree with you there if the Women's Marathon was 22miles, and the Men's track 5km and 10k programme sat alongside similar 4km and 8km Womens events. There are many Women who prefer the shorter distance xc though, and tbh I'd be happier racing over short course given my preference for 5km's these days. If there was a way to run a short course / long course split instead of Sen Male / Sen Female split this might offer a solution but I doubt it could be workable. |
