My first North Mids today, 6k that was probably really 7k based on times but good fun. Very frozen.
CAU at Wollarton in 2024 which will be handy to go down and watch.

Good venue, and much easier to get to than Loughborough I think for those relying on trains, for the intercounties if that's at Woollaton.

Nice work Curly.
First XC of the season for me today as skipped the first fixture and the relays. Good start to the season and for building through the winter. Never really under pressure at all today (which was the plan but it's easy to get it wrong) and nice to not really have a bad period in the race. Started easier than most as usual, but then was stuck in congestion on the first lap (splits 6:25, 6:24) but was able to get moving on the second and third (last) lap (6:01, 6:13, 6:03, 6:06). On both of those laps I surged on the first half of the lap to close gaps to a group in front (first surge actually jumped a couple of groups). Particularly pleased with how the surge on the last lap went as it was a long one as the gap was pretty big and I'd been working in no man's land for some time so it was risky but it worked.
Oh I raced in the Dragonfly XC. It was solid on a fairly frozen course. I did wonder whether they were a good choice in warm up as initial lace tying allowed to much movement if surface wasn't flat on landing, but tying them properly tight did the trick. They fit very well for me feet.

Wow, £150 XC spikes SPR, nice! Don't think I've ever paid more than 25 quid for mine, as they get so little use - 5 or 6 runs a year!
Missed the district masters today, still got a cold. But looking forward to next district league race in January and nationals in Feb.  G

Nice SPR! Good racing tactics. I also sometimes feel being caught up for a while at the start actually doesn't do me too much harm versus going out too hard. Mentally it's much easy to catch up than be overtaken.
Ground was very frozen for ours too but odd squishy bit and giant puddle. Had to wash and dry spikes for another race tomorrow 😂

Curly - Yes agreed, too slow is always better than too fast and definitely better mentally to be catching people. Two XCs in a weekend is hardcore!
I got them for just over £100. Double what I've paid for XC spikes previously but if they last then there's no issue really and road racing shoes are costing more than twice that much for those that do that in supershoes and likely need replacing fairly frequently.
It's actually the first time I've raced in anything vaguely super. I have until now run exclusively in New Balance spikes for XC and track as they fit me very well but the Dragonfly XC fit better than my NB XC spikes (probably because I could go with my track size for Nike but have to size up for XC in NB). I have now also got a pair of track. Dragonfly spikes though as they are significantly reduced in some stores. I think the NB track superspike would suit but I'm not trying it at full price!

Today's XC now cancelled as the paths can't be seen 😂❄️
It's only local league stuff so not too concerned. Not sure we could get our car out until all neighbours are up and clearing the lane anyway!

Expecting an absolute quagmire for the County champs on Saturday. Baptism of fire as it'll be my first xc outing in over a year I think. Wouldn't be surprised if a number of county champs get postponed or cancelled given a) this season's attitude in some areas to a perceived risk and b) the nonstop rain over the past few weeks.

Been full of cold this last week, but hoping to make our champs at Bulwell this sat.
Nationals is my big effort this year so no pressure although I'll be scoring if it's 4 to score 😳 my poor team 😂
