The good news is I am getting in a lovely shouty debate on Twitter about the XC thing
Interesting ndellar - I do warm-up on courses, but try to step off when the race comes past. I find the behaviour of peeps warming up good at XC but terrible at the road relays (especially Sutton Park for some reason). You often get groups of 4-5 men warming up on the course there and they seem to expect us to move around. In general single file, courteous I dont have a problem with, but they do need to be aware there is a race going on. I have been known to chide people occasionally if I feel they are taking the mickey.

Agree with all that Curly. Sutton Park can be a bit of the nightmare. One issue there is that the grassy area near the start has loads of rabbit holes in it and I’ve heard of folks doing themselves a right mischief warming up there so loads use the course itself. At least the races are run concurrently so there isn’t the gender angle that you can get at XC where it’s just blokes warming up getting in the way of the womens race (although maybe the women get in the way of the juniors )
Single file, well off the racing line shouldn’t be too much to ask for!

Also at our league XC the men are at different venues (different leagues, run by different people) so yes its probably us getting in the way of the juniors!

57.5 Degrees of Pain
I found myself warming up behind the last female runner recently (men go off after all the women have finished at the District Champs (less junior races than the league). I tried to hang back as I suspected she would not like me coming too close and fortunately she got away when I pootled around the extremely muddy section trying to work out the best racing line. This proved valuable when I put 20m into the three runners with me who virtually came to a halt in the worst section!
Many of our courses require scouting so warming up on the course is virtually universal. No excuse for not getting right out of the way though.

Changing the subject, I didn't know that I needed to be a first claim member of a northern athletics club to run in the Northern champs on the 27th. Had hoped I could run as an individual by birth but it seems not too be the case, gutted😭

Didn't know that, but I suppose it makes sense as NA is a body that exists through the affiliation of Northern clubs. Having said that I had always assumed they welcomed all comers. Wonder if the same applies to county champs?

There was something in the Merseyside rules about that - I think you could run for 2nd claim if your first claim club was in a different county.

County champs are fine for entry by individuals without a region club. Not sure whether EA membership is needed though.

Or at least Warwickshire and Worcestershire are fine.

County eligibility is always residence or birth, but whether you additionally need to be a member or second claim member of an affiliated club I don't know - suspect it's up to counties to make up the rules.
