Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

NR no rules on length of spikes for cross country only for all weather tracks. Depends on course if 9s or 12s are best, also I find with a lot shoes now you lose a ceratin amount of the length as threads are sunk in to the sole so you tend to need next size up.

15mm are longest you can normally get.

15s are the longest I've got (from Start Fitness) although I suspect 18s exist. Think Saucony Kilkennies ship with something utterly negligible - 3, possibly.

Homer, you will love XC!

My shoes came with 6mm spikes and I have a set of 12mm for the muddier / grassy stuff.

I'll be wearing the 6mm most likely for next weeks XC as it's mostly on grass with one steep downhill and about 40 meters of tarmac - should see a few sparks on that.

One thing I noticed last year is that your spikes will snag in long grass - thankfully we only had one course with shin high grass last year

Mx - I think if you hit someone with Kilkennys out of a box they'll get a bruise not spike marks ;)

Anyone been experimenting with different spike configurations?
Say 18s on the left and 3s on the right? (for circular courses of course)

I've never considered spikes, being a rather back of the pack runner. I'm pretty happy with my Swoops. I get the feeling that you only really need spikes if you're going to be one of the speedy ones. Am I correct?

I am nowhere near the front of the pack and I wear them-it is not about being fast it is about wanting grip for me.
