Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Woah, new shoes on Tuesday for a marathon this weekend? I suppose if you are very confident about the shape...

I keep my race shoes for best but still do at least a handful of runs (including long ones) in the weeks leading up.

If they're a repeat pair (make & model no.) and they felt good right out of the box on previous pairs, then I'd be pretty relaxed about breaking them in. Otherwise I'd make sure I got 50-100 mile on a new pair in the last few weeks a la JDA.

Good to see postie back. No more viruses now please.

Gus - new place sounds idyllic, have you retired there? :-)

Dizzy heights of 30m last week for me, sometimes under 9:30m/m pace now. I'm quite close to obeying the 10% increase week on week rule, which I doubt anyone has actually done before as it's sooooo conservative. All systems (medical and mojo) good so far.
My delicately returning fitness will surely be taking a knock this weekend as I'm off to the land of the deep-fried Mars bar, to be one of about a billion blow-ins for the Fringe.

Nice steady progression there Paul, someone has to obey the 10% rule.

I'm concentrating on base mileage at the moment, up to 60 mpw with 16 weeks to Lanza. Not that quick but will hopefully have enough speed in my legs to do Bristol Half in three weeks at sub 1:30.

Glad to hear you are back Postie

WW, PMP is always hard IMHO. The max I have done is 12 in a 20 or 22, and it was like a tempo, really hard. But as Joe says, get to race day and put that number on and it seems a little easier!

Good news PtB :-)

Jda the new shoes will wait for a September or October marathon. Think I'll go with the older pair that has 850+ miles in them.

Nice and steady Ptb.

V02 max session was just what the doctor ordered. Allowed me to empty the gunk from my lungs on the roadside with no one watching me. I feel cleansed now! :)

Pace was a couple of seconds off what I would ideally want but given my last week, it's not something I'll be fretting about.

I've run a half marathon in shoes I only used twice previously because the pair I wanted to run in expired a few days before the race. I covered my feet in body glide to stop blistering and got round OK. Wasn't the most comfortable race as the new shoes were still a bit stiff but no issues apart from that.

I have quite often raced in brand new shoes, but then I rarely suffer from blisters so don't have to be that careful

Enjoy the fringe Paul. We went to see newsrevue at the pleasance last Saturday which was good! Good progression also.

BR - good to hear your upping the training as well.
