At the moment Im not really training for anything in particular but I hope that spring brings the oportunity to make a good stab at a sub 50. Ive managed it on a couple of ocassions but only by a matter of seconds. I hope ill pick up some tips and also share my wisdom so that it will become an easier acheivement. Perhaps 47mins 30 might be a good goal for 2012?????

I guess that that might be a target for those of us who snuck under 50 minutes this year. I would probably have to start doing some speed training though, having given it a miss for a couple of years.
Welcome to Fetch Gemma - a lot of your times are quite similar to mine!

Hi there,
Looking for training tips! I've recently lost a fair bit of weight, and seen pretty good improvement in 5k and 1/2M PBs, dropping to 22m38s and 1h58m respectively, and the half mara wasn't all out.
Particularly as a result of the 5k time, I'm wondering if a sub 50 10k for a race I've agreed to do on 4th December might be possible. Only complication is that I'm signed up to do a half mara week before! Any training tips for combining both? I'm currently doing about 20m a week, with a 5k parkrun for pace, an 8k fartlek, an LSR, a recovery run and a spin class.
Any training tips I should look for - Also, my assumption is I should maybe jut do one recovery and one 5k pace run between the half and the 10k - that sound reasonable?

It's possible but not if you completely spud yourself on the half. You should be able to carry your fitness through but you're going to have quite tired legs. I'd only have a single run between the half and 10k and not have very high expectations for your second race.
