Well doen Herman! I think my chances are finished this year as I've only one 10k race left and it has a steep hill you run three times. Still nice to be nibbling away at my time and looking forward to giving it a concentrated effort in 2012.

Great job Herman - even better as you weren't able to pace yourself!

Thanks guys. Was really annoyed when the Garmin refused to lock in but it all worked out in the end. Can't believe it was that close!

Well done Herman . Like Night-Owl, I'm in the "drifted (well, plummeted) back out" group so it's about next year now.

Well done, Herman. That's the way to do it.
Scribbler and Dvorak, have a magical Christmas and then come back to it in the New Year. You'll get there.

Quick bit of advice needed. Have a half marathon Sunday and a 10k on Sunday 4th. I'd like to PB in both races, if possible.
Current PB for half is 1.58 (set in early Oct 11), for 5k 22.27 (set on Saturday!) and for 10k 56min (a six year old PB). Feels like the last one has got a lot of room to come down.
Anyway, I'm tapering for the half, so today I did my last "10k pace" run - a treadmill 5k at a little under 5min/k pace. Felt fairly comfortable.
Now I'm trying to work out the best pacing strategy for the half so I don't destroy myself for the 10k! I was thinking of targeting 11k in 1 h 02/3m, and then trying to do a 55min last 10k, treating almost as a 10k progressive training run, so if can, I'm almost doing last couple of K at 5min/k pace (In PB half, I manage a 4.45 last k, so I can do this if I go slow enough early on.)
Does that sound crazy, or doable?

Sounds alright, neg split is good. The 5K time suggests you can go quicker (my 5K PB is over 2 minutes slower but HM and 10K a bit faster).
Don't do much between the races (maybe a recovery run and some walking) and start further back than you think you should be.
