Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I just spent 20 minutes in silence in my local church. Absolute bliss. No iPhones etc and time to think and clear my thoughts. 😊👍

Another vote for headspace.

I've found climbing a great stress reliever. I think it's a combination of the physical effects of the climbing - I think it engages the proprioceptive and vestibular systems which seems to reset the system and there's also adrenaline and dopamine effects (I'm sure someone medical will be along to correct me) - and the fact that I am totally in 'flow' during climbing - totally focused on the problem which stops me ruminating on everything in the whole world for those few minutes. It sounds like you are injured so I guess it might not be an option but I would highly recommend it. I can leave the house feeling stressed, tired and totally lacking in motivation and finish my session feeling energised and significantly less stressed.

Yoga classes are my thing - they tick so many boxes as they combine stretching and strength exercises as well as a guided relaxation session at the end.

The 30 day yoga camp was a good intro to yoga and I agree with FDNB.

Knitting usually works for me. It's rhythmic, and requires just enough concentration to keep unwanted thoughts out. And at the end you've got a jumper or a pair of socks.

You're right, hp, things which engage your attention and encourage a sense of flow are useful.

When I was a teenager and feeling stressed out, I used to go somewhere with a view and just sit there for ages. I had a secret place overlooking the ocean in a scrubby bit of bushland. I miss that place. It seems like it needs to be somewhere high up for the best effect, though sitting near water is also quite calming. Being outdoors is good. Gardening is very therapeutic. Unless you happen to be in charge of your allotment site :)

Really appreciate the advice guys. Been trying Headspace for three days now and liking it. Been having some issues recently that resulted in a trip to a and e last night because I am a bit daft (actually I'm not, pays to get these things checked out I guess, but doesn't stop you feeling silly). Come to the conclusion I need some help but alongside that 10% need to find something to fill in the running gap, as I think that is having an impact for sure.

I actually don't have issues getting to sleep, though recently wake up several times in the night, so might get Sleep with Me. if only for the name :-)
