what a lovely day for a race, but the overnight deep frost left the course too firm for my liking. funnily enough it didn't seem to matter whether you wore spikes, off road shoes or road shoes, it was very dry with only a bit of leaf litter to worry about. my walshes came back far cleaner than when i put them on. the course in Bramcote Hills was short at only 4 miles, but involved 4 tough climbs in the two laps. all in all an excellent morning.

I won my league race today at the Oxford Mail league. Not without distress though - I slipped on ice 5 minutes in and gashed my knee to the bone, badly scraped the other knee and sprained my hand. Still picked myself up to finish though :o)
Digging in to the finish (is that a TURN OF SPEED I see?!?!? Never!):

Sorry to hear about your fall, Rach Sorry I didn't see you - I did see Gobi a short way away, but couldn't see you. No. 1 son was in the U13 race today. He was last again I think (although it wasn't clear if someone had pulled out of his race), but was a bit quicker than his first ever XC race at Ascott. As we were car sharing today, as soon as the next race had finished we made a move home. Congratulations on your win! Well done!

is that a cunning plan to shed a bit of weight so that you go faster Rach? quite unusual to gash both knees in a fall, normally you'd try to roll on to your side when you lost control. no photo's of Gobi sucking the blood ;-)?

The joy of doing one of the toughest XC leagues is the chance of blood being spilled. Rach was not alone as various people crossed the line bleeding.
:~) I was not one of them.
