Icklechick, there is one in December in Reigate. I think it is called the Holly Run. That is open to all and you get a medal, unlike the club league ones.

icklechick, most XC races are in club leagues. if you joined our club for example you would have 10 free XC races to go to. bit far for you though, so try one nearer home. i love xc, the best running in my opinion as you have to use your brain as well as your fitness.
anyone looking for a great XC type race i recommend the Charnwood Hills race in Leics, although the website seems to be down or have changed charnwoodrace.f9.co.uk

This reminds me, I need to buy some spikes.

BS, I agree - it's awesome fun. I burnt myself out on the hills so more strategy will be employed for the next race. The Met League is a high standard. My club is also part of The Sunday Leaugue which is for normal type runners. I haven't tried that one yet though.

Lot's of my friends run Surrey League so it's a shame I don't get to compete against them but the Ellis / Dystart (m/f) later this year us open as far as I can tell so should be exciting

I'm looking forward to XC this year. I'm doing:

The Oxford Mail League
Hampshire League (with my second claim club)
Various other one off championships
Southern intercounties
National intercounties (I hope, if I'm selected again)

I love cross country and it's the chance to see some very young people run very fast...!

Hi all

I'm a XC virgin and doing my first race on Saturday... "serious club runners" "young people run very fast" - oh dear, what have I done?!

I've liked my trail races better than road races this year, so I'm hoping it will be ok - but looking forward to getting some great tips on this thread!

KTT, There are normally fast people at the front, but you'll find there's a wide range of speeds and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Which league are you doing?
