If your last two sessions ahve beena long run and a hard session, then your next one should probably be a little slower I think. Not tempo, at least

Fantastic. I was thinking about not joining the regular Tuesday morning group for speedwork this morning, as my legs didn't feel up to it (or so I thought). However, I am giving one of the group a lift to Henley half marathon on Sunday and as it can be very difficult to get in contact with him, I thought I'd better pop along this morning and see him. He is also my main rival, being just 3 months younger than me and up until recently, of very similar levels at most distances. The reason for that not being the case recently is that I am doing marathon training whereas he is doing lots of speed training and much less distance.
Today's session (at the lookout) was 690 metre hilly reps. This is on a fairly narrow trail with a few steepish hills, finishing with a long one whichever direction the path is run. We only did 6 reps of this, which given the difficulty of the path, is plenty. I haven't beaten Glenn (my rival) on any speedwork all year and he is in very good form. On the first rep today, I finally beat him by 5 seconds, although that really just about finished off my legs. Overall it was a very good workout and now that the long runs are out of the way, I look forward to sharpening up before Abingdon.
