I think part of my problem is the huge difference between what my head remembers and what my body wants to do. Only 5 months ago I was just under 8min/mile for a marathon, and now 10min/mile for an hour is a challenging run. I know it's just the heat, the unaccustomed experience of a treadmill after almost 4 years outside, and the change in diet, not to mention the culture shock, general stress and having mosquito bites the size of tennis balls, but even so, it's hard to accept such a loss in pace. And it's not just me either - my housemate, who has a couple of half maras behind him, is also struggling. I'm hoping that hot weather training is a bit like altitude training and when I get back I'll suddenly find it all so easy again.
IanM - marathon virgin! Good luck, I hope you enjoy it. I got precisely no sleep before my first I was so nervous.

I think you will see the difference when you get back Katie, in fact it'll be a doddle - after our mini heatwave the relief of running in cooler weather was incredible. As you know I run to 70% heart rate and I went from almost 11 minute miles to under 10. This week has been warm again and I'm up to 10:30 miles - just shows what extra effort is required to run when it's hot. Don't sweat it
And running slow is good for the soul too

Thanks Katie. Yes I reckon you'll find it so much easier going when you come back to the nice, cold, damp November weather in the UK :-). It will be lovely weather to run in.

It does BB, and it's a light week. I have been doing 50-60 for several weeks so it feels a bit weird. Like I've given it up or something
Yes, nice picture, like a weird owl or something
I'll be glad to do the mara now cos it's interrupting my training

Gobi
I've just had a great run 10.25 miles in 1:19 with an AVG HR of 133
I'm not allowed to run faster than 7:38 pace on an easy day and I have to keep my HR below 145 at all times

Nice one Gobi, who has your soul then? Do you keep them in the caravan you're taking to RNR? Can we all have a play with them?
